In the meantime, I've noticed some discrepancies on the baseball-reference site that could possibly lead to problems after the auto-draft. For instance, if you sort by all players who wore the number 6, Rogers Hornsby is included. But if you click on Hornsby's player page, it says he wore uniform #'s 4, 9, 11, and 16. Did he wear #6 as a manager? I can't find any way to check what uniform numbers former players wore when they went on to become a manager. Which raises the question as to whether the qualifier for our league is uniform numbers worn only as players, or does it also include numbers worn as managers.
Although I forget which player, there was another guy listed as having worn a certain number and when I clicked on his individual player page there were no uniform numbers listed for him at all.
In all, I've run into a handful of such discrepancies while doing my research.
Anyway, I thought I should bring this up so that we are not trying to resolve such issues after the auto-draft.
Thanks, Kevin! Let’s handle it this way...if you search a uniform number on B-R and a player appears on the list, he’s eligible for that number. Also, if a player has a number listed on his player page, he’s eligible for that number.
You’re probably right about the managing aspect, and given that we’re dealing with literally thousands of data points, it’s not hard to imagine that there may be a few errors.
