Base Running and Stealing

PostMon Aug 06, 2018 7:04 pm

If you have all AA and AAA stealing and 16 and 17 for speed how should u set up the Base Running and Stealing parameters?

How do u find out what Hold Bkr Wpr and Bat mean and what the values for each mean>

On the "Hitter Pref" page, select the good base stealers as "More" and the slow guys as "Don't". Just leave players blank if they are in between.

On the "Team Strategy" page, you can select base running and stealing as aggressive. I would shy away from "very aggressive" unless you are totally committed to do nothing else.

The pitcher's card has the hold rating, Balk rating and Wild Pitches.
The hold rating adds or subtracts to the stolen base number. It is easy to steal against a pitcher with a +2 or higher hold.
You can't do anything to change balks and wild pitches. The higher the number, the more often they happen. They just happen randomly when there are runners on base. Most often when the score is tied in the ninth and the leadoff man reaches on an error.

Personally I never set the team stealing to Aggressive as it will lead to a lot of attempts to steal third and home and a lower success %. My speed teams routinely hit between 75%-80% success rates and often lead the league in steals at the same time.

With fast teams I do like to set base running to aggressive as it leads to more scoring opportunities and if your guys are all 16 or 17 runners you'll have a good success rate.

It would also depend if you are playing in a high or low scoring environment. Attempting to steal a base or take an extra base generally increases your chance of scoring exactly 1 run in an inning but decreases your chance of scoring more than 1 run in an inning. If you need to score 6 or 7 runs per game, you better not make too many outs on the bases. If you can win scoring 3 or 4 runs per game (with a lot of 1 run games), that extra base can be the difference.
