Why is HAL so terrible at making platoon substitutions?

PostWed Sep 05, 2018 12:16 pm

For example, I've got hitters set to avoid LHP and platoon hitters who mash LHP, yet when a team brings in a LHP reliever, no subs are ever made. Am I doing something wrong?

HAL's not terrible at it, HAL just doesn't DO THEM.

"Avoid" means, that player most likely won't be BROUGHT IN to face the Avoided side. Has no bearing on an LHP RP ENTERING the game against your VS Right Handed Lineup and your sets of platoons.

In fact, all the "Avoids" only mean that that hitter or pitcher most likely wont be BROUGHT IN to face a side they are marked to avoid.

From the SOM Wikia:

Avoid left-handed pitchers / Avoid right-handed pitchers
This setting increases the chances that the hitter in question will be pinch-hit for, when facing the corresponding type of pitcher. At this point, I'm not sure exactly which situations this affects, though I doubt that it would take effect as early as the 1st inning of a game.

That may be how it works in theory, but on the ground, that's not what happens.

Another unaddressed "glitch" by SOM. As is so often the case with this company, the gulf between what they say or claim and the reality of what they deliver is a yawning chasm. But hey, nothing to see here, just keep buying teams and only offer "constructive" criticism - which they will blithely ignore anyway.
