Minor League Challange

PostSun Dec 23, 2018 3:18 pm

Trying for something a little different. Some research will be required! League is created, no password.

This is a 6 team league with an unlimited cap using the DH rule. Choose one city that has been host to a minor league baseball team. Managers may draft any player that has played at least one game as a MINOR LEAGUE player in that city. If you choose a city that has been host to both major and minor league franchises, you may only draw from players that played for the minor league franchise. Example: Baltimore could draft Babe Ruth because he played for the Baltimore AA team in 1914, but could not draft Eddie Murray as he only played for the Baltimore major league franchise (But Murray COULD be drafted by Bluefield, Asheville, Miami, Rochester or Charlotte). For our purposes, minor leagues include all leagues except: National League 1876-present, American League 1901-present, Players League 1890, American Association 1882-1891, Union Association 1884, Federal League 1914-1915, and the Negro Leagues. You may choose any stadium. Cities that have already been chosen cannot be duplicated. Trades are allowed as long as both teams have rights to the players they are trading away. On opening night you may only have players on your roster that played for a minor league franchise in your chosen city or that you acquired through a legal trade.

I have a question about the Negro League players. Is their playing time in the NeL counted as a minor league, or are we only talking about players like Mays and Aaron that played a season or two in the Negro Leagues before joining a major league farm club?

Good question, thanks. My gut feeling is that calling the Negro Leagues a "minor" league would be doing a disservice to those players. Also, without doing a ton of research I can't be sure that there weren't one or two Negro League cities out there that would unbalance the league pretty badly with their player pool. I'll modify the league description appropriately. Obviously Mays could still be drafted by Trenton or Minneapolis. Thanks again for pointing this out!
