I hate seeing this tournament dying on the vine.

Seems clear that the new format is a burst, so unless something changes I will be dropping out at the end of the year.

I know I have a lot less experience in this tournament than do most of you, and I am probably going to play no matter what just because I like the game and tournaments satisfy my overly competitive streak, but I just am not seeing much interest here. Last year there were 126 sign ups. So far this year, with less than 3 weeks to go until the announced opening day, there are 34. Maybe it is because the tournament page is not up yet, and maybe its because there has not been an announcement, but I also wonder how much of it is because of the 8-10 season commitment.

I applaud the effort to change things up, but I fear it might have been too much too fast. Maybe add 1 extra league and let you drop the lowest? I don't know. Like I said, I will probably play anyway because I usually have 1 or 2 mystery teams going at any time, so these will represent them, but as it stands right now more than 1/3 of the contestants make the finals.

Here is my take on the situation.
First I would like to say that I appreciate the time and effort Rosie has put in to this and I am willing to help in any way I can. But....

1) We should revert back to the previous format for this year's tournament.
2) Over the course of this year's tournament we "poll the audience" with some various options to tweak NEXT year's tournament.
3) After receiving the feedback we create next year's tournament format and make it known to all participants so there won't be any "getting caught off guard" which I think is currently happening.

thank you and spread the word about the tournament ...we need a lot more entries!!

For the entries, just put the announcements in front page, a lot of person don't go to discussion forum!!!

First, thanks to Rosie for doing something and getting this thing going. Because, people like to complain but don't want to step up and do the work of running the tournament. And as past commissioner, it is a lot of work and not a lot of fun to run the tournament. Second, regarding the sign-ups - it is slow only because SOM has not posted a header advertising the Tournament; however, if the rules are not completely fleshed out, it may be too early to post a header.

Ok, now my complaints (despite my complaints about complainers). The new rules seem to require a significant amount of work on behalf of SOM. How amenable is SOM to complying with the new format? I think more updates would be nice from both SOM (unlikely) and Rosie. I'm not 100% confident that things will run smoothly - is there a plan B if the tournament is falling apart? It has been my experience that some people do not like any rule changes after the start of the tournament and I doubt that every contingency has been thought through. In the past, the Tournament has been an excellent tool for introducing inexperienced players to the Mystery format - I think that 8 leagues will discourage some new players. In fact, I kind of feel that the rules are designed for mid-level players, which is fine but I think it would be better to run separate tournaments, one traditional Mystery Tournament and one new-rules tournament; they could run simultaneously; I think only running the new-rules tournament runs the risk of lowering morale in the mystery leagues if the new-rules league doesn't go well. Finally, if Mike (ducky) is lurking out there - you were the best commissioner imo and, if you are lurking out there, I'd love to hear your comments.

Anyway, I am grateful that Rosie has come forward and I would love to again play in a Mystery Tournament!!!

Frank,

Since we haven't heard from Rosie since the post that mentioned a plan B on 12/17, I think if there is any chance of a tournament early in 2019, someone needs to communicate with Strat to post the tournament on all league pages as a start. The tournament needs to remain the same as prior year's tournaments. As suggested, running a second tournament with different rules or revamping the 2020 tournament well in advance of the start of the tournament date are good ideas, but not for the 2019 tournament.

I appreciate the flattery attempt at trying to convince me to run the tournament, but the commissioner gets little respect and is the person that bears the brunt of everyone's complaints including being responsible for the irresponsible managers that sign up for a tournament, but pretend they don't understand the deadlines for the start of each decade even though that information is posted for all to see. I am more than bit jaded. I still do not understand why Strat doesn't run tournaments instead of getting free labor from the community.

I do believe a 2019 tournament can be held under the old format. The start date definitely will not be 1/14 since the tournament hasn't been posted by Strat and the sign-ups are severely short of what is needed for the tournament. My suggestion is a start date of 2/4 with cutoff sign-ups by 1/21. Each decade should start two weeks after the prior decade to keep manager's focused. I know their are managers that only want to focus on one or maybe two teams at most, but the larger the delay between the start of each decade, the harder it is to corral all the managers when it is time to enter their respective teams.

Really want to have any tournament that is meaningful. To do this I suggest:

1) Delete this thread ASAP to avoid confusion in signups.
2) Post new thread of Classic Mystery Tournament 2019 with OLD rules and format.
3) Convince Strat to promote.
