We found a video replay of the last inning of the 1968 WS recently. I think it took a TOTAL of about 6 minutes to play. Nobody stepped out of the box. Batters were swinging at the first pitch in a lot of AB's. Pitchers got the ball, looked at the sign from the catcher and threw it. No shaking off, no trips to the mound, no walking around muttering to yourself. I almost missed the commercial break it was so brief.

Most of us grew up in a time where the games were 2:00 - 2:20. I'm a big fan and even I have trouble with the 4 hour marathons we routinely see today.

This would work if players and owners all agree to a pay cut.

There should be no warm up pitches when changing pitchers in middle of an inning.
No other sport stops the game to allow players entering a game time to warm up.

Just raise the price on the remaining commercials to get the same revenue. If advertisers won't pay the increased rate, then you know in what direction your sport is going.

There are many creative ways to get advertising in during the broadcast.

Soon MLB uniforms will look like the Euro Soccer jerseys. They could also trim the lengths of the commercials, since we are becoming a 10 second sound bite society.

They could take a queue from what I've seen a few times in other sports, I'll try to explain succinctly.

When there's a break in the action, go to split screen and show a 15 second commercial. A perfect example would be after an out as the fielders reset, as the new batter heads into the box. With 60 secs between innings and this in place, revenue would actually increase?

Also, it would give us more Flo and less Joe Buck.

Exactly. They even did some short 5-7 second ads during breaks in the action during the playoffs. I would bet there are 80-90 minutes of commercials in an average baseball game. If you want to "speed up the game,' there's where you can do it.
