Nominations of Some All-Time Offensive Seasons

Want to nominate a card but aren’t sure who? Below are some great offensive seasons for All-Time greats that may be slightly different than cards we have now.

1948 Ted Williams
If Williams’ cards don’t always hit what you think they should (it’s all those walks), check out his 1948 card.
For all his current cards in the set, his HITS make up between 53%-56% of his OBP. 1948 was the season during his prime when that Hit Pctg of his OBP was it’s highest: 60%. He is VERY Balanced as well, vs LH & vs RH almost identical

1937 Joe DiMaggio
His career highs in HR, RBI, Slugging and should’ve won the MVP (Gehringer). If you want Joe to be a slugger, here he is.

1963 Hank Aaron
Yeah, he has 5 cards, but all his best cards lean at least moderately Left. ‘63 Aaron is a 1R balance, enhancing the card set.

2003 Albert Pujols
This Albert plays LF & 1b, though probably below average.

1972 Carlton Fisk
‘72 Fisk is evenly balanced, in contrast to his 77/78 Red Sox cards. Rookie of the Year and best offensive season by OPS+

2012 Miguel Cabrera
2013 leans Left, 2012 is a 4R. Nice for those Minute Maid teams.

Another player I've been looking at in this light is Stan The Man. A high dollar, Right leaning card would be 1951. 2nd in MVP

The follow-up to his MVP season, .289 / 29 / 93 - the only Reggie card with gold glove (RF1) fielding

1973 Bobby Grich
Gold Glove, 107 walks, and plays all 162 games

1981 Dwight Evans*
.296 / 33 / 107, 127 walks, plays all 162 games (* strike-shortened season, stats projected to 162 games)

1992 Gary Sheffield (started at 3B and won batting title for Padres)
.330 / 33 / 100 (started at 3B and won batting title for Padres)

1938 Joe Dimaggio
.324 / 32 / 140 - I know the harder slugging '37 card is also recommended, but this would be a more moderately priced card from an SOM "Super Deluxe" season. Also, due to the nature of Dimag's lefty/righty splits that year, the card will generally over-perform

1975 Carlton Fisk
.331 batting average - this is the year of the legendary 12th inning, game 6 homerun. Missed some time due to injury, but I love this high batting average card for Pudge

1956 Minnie Minoso
.316 / .425 / .525 (plays LF, RF, 3B, 1B)- an underrated player who has a good case for the HOF. Deserves a better card in the ATG set. Other top seasons include:
1951 - .326 / .422 / .500 (plays 6 different positions and steals bases)
1954 - .320 / .411 / .535

1941 Roy Cullenbine
.317 / .452 / .465 (121 BB) - Super-high OBP switchitter from pre-War period

1933 Mickey Cochrane
.322 / .459 / .515 - best hitting season; super-high OBP

I'd love to see the '88 Greg Jefferies NY Mets card from the EXPANSION set. I have not seen that card in 30 years but I remember it was awesome.

Else, the '36 Gehrig would be nice.

I am glad you nominated McGraw. I was trying to decide between Pudge and McGraw and you made the choice for me. Hopefully both get through. That McGraw card is insane.

I'm pleased to see that Miguel Cabrera 2012, which Andy promoted here and I nominated, is now leading the vote count for the 19.1 class. This card wouldn't have occurred to me if Andy hadn't mentioned it, and since it was the 48th card nominated, others also likely would have missed it.
McGraw is also doing well. Dimag 1937 is in the mix and could use a few more votes.

Lots from my era, the 80s
Mark Clear 86 best WHIP of career. Actually usable

Sandberg 85 his usual plus AA steal rating

Luis Deleon 82. .9 whip and a 9R

Pete Incaviglia 87 best average and a .497 slug. 27 dingers in 139G

Ed Correa 86. Low hits to IP. On the verge before injuries set in.

Tom Paciorek 82 or 83. Decent glove at 1b and lf depending on year. .300 average .800+ OPS. A mainstay in my old face to face leagues. Overlooked.

Lloyd Moseby 83. .315 avg, 875ops. Speed, power and glove. Play him with Barfield and Bell’s best years in an all classic Jay OF

Willie Upshaw 83. 27 Dingers with 887 ops. Good glove and speed.

Lee Lacy 82 for a burner 40SBs in less than 400 PAs, or 84 for 826 OPS with a bit of pop and speed over a full season (520 PAs)

Steve McCatty 81 16CG in 22 starts. Led league in ERA with 2.33. 2nd in CY vote

Dave Kingman 84 excellent power in OAK pitchers park 35 HR. .268 average is great for Kong.

Mike Davis 85 best season for this RF. Speed, power and defense. Good arm. Probably prices out in the low middle. Baines light.

And a a few from the 40s

Gene Bearden 48 rookie wunderkind on championship team. ERA+=168! Fizzled the rest of career.

Sig Jakucki 1944 for Browns WS losers, but 45 marginally better. Out of baseball after that (a drinker with a temper)

George Case 42 .320 career best with 784 OPS 44 steals in 50 attempts better year than 40.

Atypical BA = .340 BA (lost batting title on last day), and all 3 outfield positions (Gold Glove in Right)
