Post War Outfielders---NO CARD Edition

PostMon Feb 25, 2019 8:39 pm

Many have said that we don't know what we are getting when we nominate cards, so I've taken some time to put some stats together from some cards, using Diamond Dope and Veterans 1975 for the park, since it's kind of neutral (10,10,10,10). I asked Bill for his permission/blessing to do this. So I'll be posting some card add ideas, thoughts, etc to hopefully keep interest up and give folks some stuff to actually discuss on the boards.

1954 Sandy Amoros, BKN, Bats-L, 4R Balance, LF/CF/RF-3(+1)e5
LH--6.4 2b, 0 3b, 0 HR, 0 BB, 49/256/308, .563 OPS
RH--8.5 2b, 3.6 3b, 4.8 HR, 10 BB 290/362/598, .960 OPS
Made one of the great catches in WS history in 1955 Game 7 (also homered in Game 5)in that Series),
This is a good platoon card vs RHP

1951 Johnny Groth, DET, Bats-R, 6L Balance, LF-2(-1)e3, CF-3(-1)e3
LH--15.7 2b, 0.2 3b, 1.2 HR, 3 BB 503/521/692, 1.214 OPS
RH--4.9 2b, 0 3b, 1.4 HR, 5 BB 274/314/361, .676 OPS
Played for Tigers for 12 seasons, would be an Awesome Platoon vs LHP

1948 Gene Hermanski, BKN, Bats-L, 7R Balance, LF/RF-3(-1)e10
LH--0 2b, 0 3b, 2.3 HR, 6 BB 148/203/215, .418 OPS
RH--7.3 2b, 3 3b, 6.3 HR, 19 BB 398/509/761, 1.270 OPS
Great Platoon Card vs RHP, gives better LF option for Post War Brooklyn

1951 Sam Jethroe, BSB, Bats-R, 1R Balance, RF/LF/CF-3(0)e13, Steal:*5,6/-(19-13)
LH--9.4 2b, 0.2 3b, 2.8 HR, 4 BB 290/342/470, .812 OPS
RH--2.5 2b, 3.3 3b, 5.3 HR, 12 BB 333/431/612, 1.033 OPS
"Jet" was a former Negro Leaguer who didn't get a chance to shine on the MLB level until he was 33 years old, Led the League Twice in Steals, Well-balanced and strong vs RHP, give this man a card

1948 Johnny Lindell, NYY, Bats-R, 3L Balance, LF-2(+1)e2, RF-3(+1)e2
LH--9.9 2b, 0 3b, 8.2 HR, 20 BB 466/565/859, 1.424 OPS
RH--3 2b, 1.5 3b, 6.6 HR, 2 BB 351/363/595, .958 OPS
One of the reasons for Yankee dominance in late 40s and all through the 50s was great platoons. Lindell has a great card vs LHP, played in 3 World Series

1948 Pat Mullin, DET, Bats-L, 3R Balance, RF-3(0)e10, CF-4(0)e10
LH--0.9 2b, 3.9 3b, 2.5 HR, 15 BB 265/367/439, .806 OPS
RH--1.4 2b, 2.5 3b, 8.2 HR, 15 BB 349/440/683, 1.123 OPS
10 year Tiger who lost FOUR years to WWII, good power

10th in MVP Voting.

Good 1960s outfielder, would add to the CWS post set. Not much power and not much speed.....

1948 Whitey Lockman, NYG, Bats-L, E Balance, LF/CF-1(+2)e6, 3 Game INJ Risk
LH--6 2b, 1 3b, 1.8 HR, 9 BB 342/397/476, .873 OPS
RH--1.8 2b, 2.3 3b, 4.3 HR, 13 BB 327/408/528, .937 OPS

1949 Whitey Lockman, NYG, Bats-L, 2L Balance, LF-1(+2)e10, CF-3(+2)e10, 3 Game INJ Risk
LH--6.5 2b, 0.8 3b, 1.5 HR, 14 BB 435/514/570, 1.004 OPS
RH--5.3 2b, 0.6 3b, 1.7 HR, 7 BB 339/388/453, .841 OPS
17th in MVP Voting.

For a decade, Lockman was a starter for some good Giants teams. Historically, he probably has one of the longest careers of a player with NO Card (not counting recent 2000s players). I think he'd be a great add, either card, thought that 1949 might be more interesting.
