what about Todd Jones 2005?

2.10 era and 1.02 WHIP

currently they only have the 1 reliever, this one should be good enough to at least discuss. Todd Jones did have a long career and isn't some one or two year guy like a lot of Marlins relievers

Jones only pitched one year for the Marlins, so he's not an ideal candidate as an extra. Looking for players who represent the franchise better. Different criteria here on the full team extras than for the individual card adds.

Note: All of the Marlins relievers tentatively set for this add appeared in at least 3 seasons as a Florida Marlin.

Thanks,

I understand, I was just trying to suggest a card that might actually get used. Does Ugueth Urbina get left out of the 2003 add? He may have only spent half a season in florida but he was on the 2003 team

We could make a case for adding Urbina, as he did pitch in 10 post-season games with 4 saves during the Marlins WS run. Perhaps instead of adding Alfonseca as a 7th "extra".

Note: For franchise league players the cheaper cards are very important and will be used.

Will we get him with or without the machete?

"On November 7, 2005, Urbina was arrested by Venezuelan authorities on a charge of attempted murder for an incident that occurred a few weeks previous, on October 16.[6] Urbina attacked five farm workers on his property whom he had accused of stealing a gun. The pitcher tried to injure the men with a machete and also attempted to pour gasoline on them.[7] On March 28, 2007, Urbina was convicted of attempted murder and sentenced to fourteen years and seven months in prison.[8] He was released, however, on December 24, 2012, after serving just over seven years of his sentence.[9]"

Ha! I hear he threw a mean cutter.

Revised Marlins extras:

1993 Bryan Harvey RP - Marlins first all-star, CY-8 MVP-14, seems like a good candidate for one of the relief spots. 7L righty, 1.70era 0.84whip

1995 Chuck Carr CF 1 +1 e6 A *2-6,11/ (17-15) 1-17 6L (Pairs with current 2004 Juan Pierre card)

1996 Alex Arias (good utility IF, original Marlin, need another cheap card)

1997 Edgar Renteria SS 1 e19 (Marlins already have better offensive SS in Hanley Ramirez - I think the "1" version of Renteria is a better fit than the 1996 version also mentioned). Also adds a 1997 WS team card.

1997 Jay Powell RP - 4R righty card appears to be a good choice for another relief spot. R2, 3.28era 1.26whip (adds another 1997 WS team card)

2017 Giancarlo Stanton RF MVP (more requests for the 2017 card than the 2014 version)

Core 2003 team:

1 C Ivan Rodriguez
2 1B Derrek Lee
3 2B X - Luis Castillo (already in) - substitute
4 SS Alex Gonzalez
5 3B Mike Lowell
6 LF Todd Hollandsworth*
7 CF X - Juan Pierre* (similar 2004 Marlins card in ATG) - substitute
8 RF Juan Encarnacion

9 UT Miguel Cabrera
10 LF Brian Banks#
11 C Mike Redmond
12 UT Andy Fox* (sub more useful 2002 cheap card)

1 SP Carl Pavano
2 SP Brad Penny
3 SP Mark Redman
4 SP Dontrelle Willis
5 SP Josh Beckett

6 CL Braden Looper
7 RP Michael Tejera
8 RP Armando Almanza (sub 5L 2000 better cheap card - 2003 card is pretty bad)
9 RP Ugueth Urbina
