apparently they are treating the atlantic league as a crash test dummy.

I have 2 atlantic league teams within half an hour of me. It might be worth it to head down and see what this craziness is about.

Some interesting rule changes just kicked in. Along with being able to steal first is another one that would jump start the running game again.

Pitcher required to step off the rubber in order to attempt a pickoff.
1 foul bunt is permitted with 2 strikes before strikeout is called.
Check swing rule made more batter friendly.
Batters may steal 1st on any pitch not caught by catcher.

Can you imagine what that would have done for Ricky Henderson and Lou Brock, or Tim Raines.

It could alter the value of Billy Hamilton for sure. Not only could he steal first but pitchers may become less likely to bounce one in the dirt when he is batting. Take that weapon away and who knows... maybe he hits better overall.

All this to inject excitement and try to bring back the running game and reduce the all or nothing softball HR derby that is now MLB. They could accomplish the same thing if they just dejuiced the baseball.

They need to call it what it is -safe on passed ball or wild pitch.
