Only one more owner is needed for a 12-team league using only American League players from the 2018 Player Set (no unleashed).
We’re going to try to do this as a Strat-o-Matic Live Draft with no clock (so people shouldn’t get National League players assigned to their team when their time runs out). When this group has done live drafts on the discussion thread, it generally has gone quite fast. Most of us are connected on Facebook Messenger and we let others know when it is time to pick. Our protocol has been to message the group to let people know if we’re going to be tied up and unable to make picks. The advantage of Live Draft, of course, is that we can make proxy choices.
Right now the clock shows 2 minutes, but when we have 12 signed up, I will change it to no clock and set a start time.
Given this is an American League player-only league, we have the DH turned on.
We divided up the salary of the top 168 AL hitters and top 132 AL pitchers by 12 and that came to $77.894 million, so we set the salary cap at $77 million so people should be able to use up their full salary cap if they pick appropriately. (If you decide to go dumpster diving for bargain players in the early rounds, that’s a different story.)
We’ve also traditionally had leagues in which each team has had a unique stadium (in this case, one of the 15 American League stadiums) that have been part of the draft. To make this work with the Strat-o-Matic Live Draft, we are using bad National League relief pitchers as proxies for stadiums, as listed below:
Albers, Matt = Angel Stadium 2018 (1/1/16/10)
Beck, Chris = Camden Yards 2018 (7/7/9/12)
Brice, Austin = Comerica Park 2018 (4/13/9/9)
Cecil, Brett = Fenway Park 2018 (19/19/2/8)
Graves, Brett = Globe Life Park 2018 (19/19/11/11)
Guerra, Javy = Guarnt. Rate Fld 2018 (1/7/10/10)
Mayers, Mike = Kauffman Stadium 2018 (15/12/3/3)
McGee, Jake = Minute Maid Park 2018 (1/1/8/11)
Peralta, Wandy = Oakland Coliseum 2018 (4/7/4/4)
Rhame, Jacob = Progressive Fld 2018 (19/12/13/7)
Sewald, Paul = Rogers Centre 2018 (10/10/8/8)
Shaw, Bryan = SAFECO Field 2018 (2/2/9/9)
Shreve, Chasen = Target Field 2018 (5/5/15/9)
Solis, Sammy = Tropicana Field 2018 (3/3/6/6)
Stephens, Jackson = Yankee Stadium 2018 (3/9/17/14)
You must, of course, replace this bad pitcher between the draft and the start of the regular season (not that you would want to keep any of these guys on your roster).
The league is called MLB Players Gone But Not Forgotten and the OPTIONAL team name theme is to do something related to an MLB player who has passed away in the last few years. (So far we have two teams named for Jim Bouton, one for Tyler Skaggs, plus a bunch of teams named after guys who are either still alive or who died a long time ago, so we’re not as a group great on sticking to our own theme.)
It you are interested in joining such esteemed owners as dharmabums, MEAT, ehlekev1, calbatross, TomSiebert, SGTD, zim13, ycbill, moneymaze, and kramed67037, post here and I will PM you the password.
