Double Albatross: Double No-Hitters

PostThu Sep 19, 2019 2:43 pm

Ohtani throws a no hitter and loses to a seven pitcher no hitter.

HBP-BB-BB-wild pitch for the games only run.

The outlier to end all outliers.

And the opposing manager, Axelrod Gunderson, is leading the Players Championship. It might be his year.

From The Sporting News:

“There has never been a complete-game double no-hitter in the major leagues. It has occurred 10 times in the minors.”

10 complete-game double no-hitters recorded??? THAT is amazing.

But Bleacher Report lists:

“Cincinnati Reds Pitcher Fred Toney Won Only Double No-Hitter in Baseball History.”

Against the Cubs, of course, in 1917.

Odds?

In real life, there have been 218,400 MLB games played (covering 150 years).

So I guess the odds are between 0.00000458 (once in 218,400 games) and infinity (zero times in 218,400 games). :o

The SOM game is actually way further out on the tail - this is no 18th century game where no one wore gloves. This is basically an all-star game with TWO unrealistic lineups of superstars.

Here is the box score for the game. Apparently, there were two hits in the 10th.

A remarkable strat event.
