Let’s receate the 2018 season with a 12 team real-life based roster, with free agents allowed to make it competitively balanced! $75 million salary cap. DH. Each drafted franchise must maintain a minimum of 20 players that played for their franchise in 2018 in real life. Ownership of players default to the franchise/team that they played the most plate appearances for or most innings pitched in real life- ie traded players do not necessarily play for the team that they are carded to in strat. I will publish a list of players that are owned by franchises that are different that the teams they are carded to in strat.
The rules will be kept as simple and flexible as possible within those principles.
After the sign-up period, we’ll do a random selection for the order to pick the 12 teams by a 1 round draft.
Then each of the 12 teams will declare a provisional roster of 25 players that is compliant with the $75 M cap.
The free agent pool will be made up of the non-rostered players from those 12 teams plus all of the players from the 18 franchises that were not selected for the league.
There will be a 2 round free agent draft, on the board here, or on the ILC board. At the same time as a free agent is drafted, a player is cut.
To summarize:
Process:
1. Draft franchises
2. Declare a 25 man protected list on the boards here. (Watch out for players traded in real life - they belong to the franchise for whom they had the most PA or IP).
3. Do *2* round FA draft on the thread here. The FA pool is every player not on one of the 25 man protected lists, including all players on other (non-drafted) franchises. As each Free Agent is drafted, that player must cut one of his 25 protected franchise players, who then is added back into the FA pool. This is a strictly optional FA draft - you can choose not to pick if you don't want to.
4. Autodraft teams using additional Free Agents if desired. More than 5 FA's can be used provided that 20 franchsie players are maintained at all times (i.e. you can carry more than 25 players if you want, as long as 20 are franchise players), and within the $75 M salary cap.
5. The rules allow for trading at any time after all teams have declared their 25 man initial roster. (After that point, any unclaimed players are added to the FA pool anyway). Up until the declaration of 25 man rosters, managers have exclusive rights to the players from the franchise that they draft.
Other points:
1. Up to 28 players are allowed on the final roster. The limits are the salary cap and the 20 man franchise player requirements
2. Managers must select the real life ballparks that belong to their selected franchise.
Remember, if you cut franchise players at any time, they become free agents available to any other team. The only sense in which they retain their identity as belonging to your selected franchise is that if they are still free agents after you initial roster declarations at any time during league play, you can choose to re-acquire them, and those reacquired "franchise players" can be used towards meeting your 20 franchise player roster requirement at that later time.
