20.1 Nominations are Open!

PostMon Nov 18, 2019 12:54 pm

Welcome to the 20.1 Nomination thread.

All MLB cards from 1871-2018 are eligible per Strat
(2018 cards were eligible starting with 19.4)

Our 20.1 parameters are as follows.
1. One nomination per member only
2. When we hit 40 unique nominations we will begin voting (after Andy posts card analysis)
3. We will have one poll of 50 cards; the top 24* will be added
4. Any ties for the 24th spot will be added in 20.2
5. Next "x" highest vote getters will get another shot in 20.2
6. Note: 300 PA/100 IP/50 IP minimums now in place

Please submit nominations in a 'Year Player Team Position Comments' format.

(*tie from 19.4 poll)
1993 Mike Stanley NYY C

The following 10 cards will be included in the 50-card 20.1 poll.

1973 Steve Rogers, MON 29
1977 Bob Watson, HOU 29
1935 Billy Rogell, DET 28
1941 Thornton Lee, White Sox 28
1974 Bill Buckner LA 26
2014 Pat Neshek, StL 26
1985 Rick Reuschel, Pirates 26
1905 Mike Donlin NYG 25
2012 Alcides Escobar KC 24
1993 Alex Fernandez, White Sox 24

Thanks,
Bill

2. 1978 Bob Welch, RH S/R, Dodgers, 7-4 2.02 1.060. Career bests in ERA & HR9. Near career bests in WHIP, H9 & BB9. In the 51 seasons since Denny McLain won 31 games in 1968, only 2 pitchers have won as many as 27 games, Steve Carlton in 1972 (27-10 for the 59 win Phillies) and the late Bob Welch in 1990 (27-6 for the A's). Welch's 1990 27 win card ($4.66 mil) does not do him justice. Here's Welch's classic battle with Reggie Jackson at Dodger Stadium in game 2 of the 1978 World Series. Tony Kubek, Joe Garagiola & Tom Seaver have the call:

3. 1915 Ty Cobb. I know I know, another Cobb card. Yet, this was his highest single season OBP (.486) and his stolen base record (96) which would stand until 1962! It's a crime that this card is not already in the set.

4.1969 Dick Hall BAL would be a MAJOR improvement over his current three cards. In his best year (for a 16 year career) he had .88 whip, and more importantly gave up only .4HR per 9 innings pitched (as opposed to his current cards of whip/hr9 of 1.01/.8 -- 1.02/1.1 -- .93/1.2).

hey Gents-
maybe keep your nomination thoughts to TWO lines - we don't need video links, and if you have to sell it that hard, maybe that's a problem?

Thanks Salty. I think 5 lines max should be plenty. I will definitely be readying the machete for creating the poll.
