Injury system is so messed up

PostMon Jan 27, 2020 10:27 am

Not that anyone ever uses him, but how in the hell is John Stearns a 2 injury risk? 155 games played & 590 at bats, yet he's got an injury on a 3???? 15 game risk, okay fine, but injury roll on a 3 makes absolutely no sense. Yet there are catchers with 120 games and 450 at bats who have injury rolls on a 2.

There are just so many things about this game that don't make sense some times. And a lot of it is related to injuries ...

Their incorrect calculation of plate appearances.
680 At Bats = Bullet proof, but 679 at bats = as many 3 game injuries a year as HAL wishes.
600 At Bats = 3 game max injury, but 599 at bats = 15 game max injury.
The illogical decision on which catchers get a 1 injury roll vs. a 2 injury roll.
Frequent re-injuries for guys coming off an injury.

He did have 602 PA's which would be a 3 game risk ONLY.

But Stratomatic counts a PLATE APPEARANCE as: PA's = AB's + BB's

MLB's definition of a PLATE APPEARANCE is: PA's = AB's + BB's + HBP's + SF's

On the 20XX thread is a poll about this. Go vote if you haven't already!

That was my first "non bullet bullet point", that they don't calculate PA's correctly.

See if you can top this injury plagued catcher. I recently concluded a season with Joe Mauer as my backstop (599 ABs). A bit of a gamble but how often could he get injured whereas he is only 1 plate appearance short of the magic 600 ?

Opening day Mauer injured 15 games ! Ouch !

Game 56 Mauer injured for an additional 15 games ! Double ouch !

Game 100 Mauer once again injured for 3 more games ! Manageable !

Game 119 Mauer injured again for 15 more games !!!! No choice but to release him.

In total Mauer missed 48 games out of 119 all because he was one AB short of 600 . What are the odds ????

INSANE !!!!!!!

Plenty of love for Lajoie on these boards, but I swear every single time I use him he goes down for 15 games at least twice. Always once in the first week of the season and then again later if I actually hang on to him after the first 15 gamer.
