Hint (sort of) - the other 4 sport athlete held, at one time, the single season scoring record for Long Island high schools. His record has since been broken by a baseball HOFer.

I imagine that there were many four sport lettermen at small colleges, especially in the 40s and 50s. I am only aware of Hirsch because of the stories my grandfather would tell us about his days playing football for Wisconsin during WW2.

MFL, you listed 2 sports for the Big Hurt I am looking for a guy with 4. I am not 100% sure the other guy had 4 letters, though.

Jim Thorpe?

OK, I am claiming that I stumped you. The other 4 letter guy that I know of is Jim Brown - football, lacrosse, basketball, and track.

There was also a very famous secret footrace between Jim Brown and Wilt Chamberlain at a party in Los Angeles. Nobody ever told who won.

Correct. However, there are 4 more NFL Hall-of-Famers who played for the New York Yankees
