So maybe with an adaptation of both "drop dead" limits and a "inactive bank of players - (5 or so)" with an extended budget built into the draft. It would require programming changes to implement, also would need to have a minimum number of games a promoted or demoted player has to stay. Free agency penalty could stay the same, but drawing from the inactive bank could be no budget penalty. Once a player reaches his AB's or IP limit he would have to be dropped. Of course Strat would never do this, too much work involved!!

Exactly . Whatever they do, nobody is going to want to take a salary hit

Mostly, they just need to fix the salary to reflect usage in the game. Yes, it would still be unrealistic but it would close the advantage from using them in the game. I mean, lots of things in the game are unrealistic, but if you had to pay 8 million for a super-reliever that might deter using that strategy, anyway. Complicated solutions are not going to work.

I wrote this in my poll. Murray should be $10M. then if you want to use him for 300 innings, go for it

You're probably right Steve, my number of $8 mill might be a little light considering the innings he can eat. He should be right up there with the very best starting pitchers frankly.

There is also the issue of Duren being able to come in and relieve at F9 on short rest... double whammy. At least force HAL to pick a fatigued starter who is not scheduled to start the next game.

The PC version of the game handles this scenario. Duren would not be able to start the next day (or at least without being fatigued). However, the PC version also makes allowances for when a starter gets knocked out of a game early, they can pitch sooner, like on 2-3 days rest instead of 4-5 if they only last 1-3 innings in their previous start.

The PC version also has an option for overuse of players, so players well over their real life usage will be injured for random single games here and there. Example, you would start a new regular season game and Gates Brown simply is not available to start in your lineup. Based on the distaste demonstrated by the community over the years for similar "black box" features, I'm guessing this would cause mass rioting here.

I'd much rather see them drop Murray to an R2 instead of pricing him like he was the greatest of all time. Also, I don't believe it would be all that complicated to tighten up the pitcher fatigue behavior a bit.

In 1974 Murray pitched 69 innings over 32 games. I would say he should be an R3 anyways, where'd the R4 come in.

But agree that if you made no relievers higher than an R2 it would correct the issue in a heartbeat.

Limiting RP to R3 or R2 can be accomplished through league rules as well, though I don't see it often.

The simplest solution is just to up the salaries of Murray and Sutter and the like.
And also increase the salaries of high performance extreme weighted low AB hitters like GATES BROWN etc.

that solves it very easily. if you want the value, you are going to have to pay for it
