I like this. It's realistic. GMing a team is hard work and good luck.

So far some of you look to have figured this league out better than me based on your drafting!

so am I right that the options for me with Kris Bryant (5 years of service, $6.91M) are:

1. Sign him to a 5 or more year deal at 6.91 per year
2. release him after this year
3. go to arbitration and either get him for $4mil or his next year's SOM salary (whichever is higher)

i believe extensions and all contract awards should be done before we know what the cards are....that would take alot of fun out of the league

Agreed. That was my intent.

So Altuve was a bad example being a 6+ player. I also drafted Montas a 3 yr player. Are you saying I can wait till I see how he does this year (in real life) before having to decide on extension or arbitration or even cutting him? That doesn't seem right because I'm making the decision on what he gets based on perfect knowledge of what he does in 2020 not on what I think he's going to do like I would have to do in a real life negotiation.

My answers are above merely to see if I have a clue as to what's going on.

I can't imagine the top 25% of all 3rd baseman (starters and reserves) would be above 6.91 million but I hear ya.

then again, if we all have 2 third basemen, that's 24 third basemen. That would be the avg of the top 6 (25% of 24 is 6)....maybe it would be over 6.91. hmmmmmm

For Montas, after this years draft you can give a 4 year extension at the league average salary of the top 50% of players by salary at SP or his current salary of $5.57M which ever is higher, or you can play with him this year at $5.57M, then before next years cards come out either cut him, or go to arbitration, where he'll get either $2M, or his 2020 SOMO price, whichever is higher, or do the 4 year extension thing again, as above. At least I think that's how it works?

Yeah, I think Phil will need to have the percentages calculated after the draft so those kind of decisions can be made.

I also assume that the top 25% or 50% of guys at "his" position would also include his current salary. Meaning the player in question counts as part of the sample that we are looking at when taking the 25% or 50%
