I'm still here, and I still believe that the real world is more or less rational as long as human beings pay attention to facts rather than emotions. I fully expect the US to rebound from this in a few weeks, since I think that when anyone in California sneezes, the major national media outlets turn it into a potential end of the world.

I do believe the precautions we are taking are necessary, but the reason they are necessary is that without them we were in danger of running out of ICU beds. We have about 100,000 ICU's around the country, and they are typically about half full. But most projections for the spread of the virus suggested that at its peak there would be about 250,000 cases requiring the use of ventilators in the ICU's.

Congratulations on your astute timing of the market, Bruce. Don't spend it all in one place.

There may be a brief uptick in the market but shutting down the economy as has happened where I live and will likely spread to all "essential" services nationwide, will surely crater the market for many months. I don't believe that schools will reopen until fall, if then, and so many people will be out of work for so long that that many will succumb to the virus because of despondency over their economic ruin, which will severely compromise their immunological response to the virus. I believe the "d" word will be regularly used in a couple of months and that the Depression will be worldwide.

We already live in a socially isolated world relative to our forefathers. I rarely see neighbors socializing or kids playing in the streets anymore and forbidding people to even socialize outside their families will just exacerbate the health crisis that much more. We have also created a generation of snowflake, professional victims who are completely addicted to electronics and entirely lacking in critical thinking skills and even the ability to connect interpersonally in many cases. These are the morons they had to close the beaches in Florida because of this week.

I believe that many systems will crash and governments topple. People will need to simultaneously be more self-reliant while also needing to come together in a cooperative spirit of interdependence. We are in for a grave struggle for the next two years and millions will exit the planet, at least that is the probability I see unfolding.

Craig is right about the media feeding frenzy and the panic it has engendered. We need to be fearless, as our personal power ends when fear begins and there are fates far worse than death...

And Mike, so glad we "get" each other, my friend. And much appreciation for your kind words! :)

I have to agree with Mr Druid on this , anyone who thinks this ends in a couple of weeks must have a had a couple of shots of Trump wine. The recovery from the damage being done medically and economically will last years. The math on when this pandemic ends paints a picture of biblical proportions . In 1918 I am sure there were those who proclaimed that it was the "end-time" and today the media bombardment of dome has many people thinking the same way. While I do not think this is the end of time I do feel very vulnerable to what the scientist are telling us. At 67 with pre-existing conditions I am right in the sweet spot for an early exit . As of 8 PM tonight the world around me has closed down , so many people out of work and so many people only a missing pay check away from economic catastrophe. No this does not end for us in a couple of weeks , and it may end with hundreds of thousands dead and many more displaced from the world they knew. When it does end the "American age" may be part of history as our leadership has continued to abdicate from its role in the world and its honesty to the people of our nation. Bill
