There may be a brief uptick in the market but shutting down the economy as has happened where I live and will likely spread to all "essential" services nationwide, will surely crater the market for many months. I don't believe that schools will reopen until fall, if then, and so many people will be out of work for so long that that many will succumb to the virus because of despondency over their economic ruin, which will severely compromise their immunological response to the virus. I believe the "d" word will be regularly used in a couple of months and that the Depression will be worldwide.
We already live in a socially isolated world relative to our forefathers. I rarely see neighbors socializing or kids playing in the streets anymore and forbidding people to even socialize outside their families will just exacerbate the health crisis that much more. We have also created a generation of snowflake, professional victims who are completely addicted to electronics and entirely lacking in critical thinking skills and even the ability to connect interpersonally in many cases. These are the morons they had to close the beaches in Florida because of this week.
I believe that many systems will crash and governments topple. People will need to simultaneously be more self-reliant while also needing to come together in a cooperative spirit of interdependence. We are in for a grave struggle for the next two years and millions will exit the planet, at least that is the probability I see unfolding.
Craig is right about the media feeding frenzy and the panic it has engendered. We need to be fearless, as our personal power ends when fear begins and there are fates far worse than death...
And Mike, so glad we "get" each other, my friend. And much appreciation for your kind words!
