great article on Arky Vaughan in the athletic today. he was the minor league roommate of Willard Herschberger, sadly the only ball player to commit suicide during the season. Vaughan tragically died when he went back into a freezing lake to try to rescue his fishing mate from their capsized boat. both submerged about 10 yards from shore and drowned. he was also shunned by the Hall of Fame writers, even though he put up some of the best stats ever for a Shortstop. RIP Mr. Vaughan. you deserved so much more and a lot better treatment from your contemporaries

These kinds of lists drive me nuts. But, that's my problem.

It is a great conversation piece and reading about baseball (player) history is a favorite pastime of mine.

So, who are the outliers? Mostly players from a long time ago.

How about:

Old Hoss Radbourn
The very amazing Al Spaulding (200 wins in five seasons)
Billy Hamilton
Ed Delahanty (How do you leave Ed off the list?)
Shoeless
Luke Appling (I saw him hit a HR in an Old-timers game at 75 years old - he was visibly crying crossing home plate)
Wahoo Sam
IRod
Brouthers
Monty Ward
Cap Anson

Delahanty was involved in the first Electronic Sign Stealing Scandal in 1899. the next year his Average dropped by almost a 100 points
