Live draft of greatest lineups

6 teams, $160M cap, DH. 60 seconds per pick, stadium draft.

First 15 rounds we draft the nine players in our starting lineup, four SP*, and two RP. The next ten rounds are scrubs and backups less than $1M salary.

Six players drafted at each position should be widely considered the very best at their position, you can use career WAR from Baseball Reference and FanGraphs as a guide, and career saves for RPs. No "one-hit wonder" freak cards allowed.

I'd lobby for Big Ed Walsh to get a spot. On Fangraphs he doesn't rank until #93rd! for SPs, but he's #1 All-Time for ERA. Deadball yes, but Ed's "short" career was still good for 2526.1 innings------during just a 7-year stretch!!!

From 1906-1912, he averaged 361 innings and a 1.71 ERA.

There don't seem to be too many on the edge guys and after a brief look, I feel very confident with the parameters. Great league Hollywood, thanks! 2ndbase seems pretty wide open for that 6th spot and SS too.

The next tough guys I find are the Dodger lefties: Koufax and Kershaw.

They rank 89th and 44th respectively on BBref. 70th and 41st on Fangraphs.

Kershaw has a monumental 16+ WAR between him and the 24 All-time, but wow, despite tales of his demise, he just turned 32 last week.

For me, the three aces I mention would bolster or shrink league ERA, but all three are worthy of the GOAT conversation?

Hey, it's not like I or anyone can make an argument for Silver King from the 1880s sitting at 102nd and 124th alltime, right?

I am in favor of somewhat liberal interpretation of the greatest ever at each position. Now that we're full, I'm making a list (checking it twice) that will detail at least eight possibilities at each position, including DH, and that after we choose six of the eight or so, it will leave a small pool of a couple more available to choose from if managers want to change things up prior to opening day or mid-season. The starting pitchers will have a list of at least 50 SP* to choose from, and there will be 25 relief pitchers, using career WAR or total saves as a guideline, but not a hard and fast rule.

Wells was 50 years old at the time of Robinson's debut in MLB in 1947. In 1927, Wells hit a Negro Leagues record 27 bombs (the great Seamheads has added a bunch of his seasons and places '27 at 29)

.690, .695, .673, .681 SLGs from 1927-1930 from just the ages 21-24 as a SS. It's possible Willie Wells isn't one of the "6 Greatest SS All-Time". Maybe his 5'7" frame couldn't have for real produced that kind of power of hundreds of games on a more consistent schedule. Then again what kind of SS posted high .600 SLG #s for half-a-decade, only to be forgotten while his white contemporary infielders are enshrined in things like WAR, against only the other white ballplayers?

Wells would've been something and from everything we've seen from him, he was capable of things nobody in baseball history was.
