Ok, now that we have 12 owners it’s time to settle on the rules.
I’m going to float one idea that would be a significant change on what was originally proposed. My original post proposed a 4-season league, with 1 season for each mystery card decade. The idea I’d like to put out there is doing 2 seasons for each decade. That would make it an 8-season league that will run twice as long. That could be a deal breaker for some.
Here’s why I’m floating this idea. I know from experience that with this kind of league there’s a lot of room for disappointment, in two ways:
1- You pick a team that you’re enthusiastic about, but you lose out on one of your key players to another team that also holds his rights. For example, perhaps you picked the Yankees, looking forward to having Mantle and Maris on the same team. But you lose out on Maris to the owner of the Cardinals.
2- You’ve got a star player you’re excited about but you get his worst card in the mystery card roll of the dice. For example, you’ve got the A’s and you get stuck with Reggie Jackson’s lousy 1968 card. (And you’re not guaranteed to get him in the 70s since his rights are shared with the Yanks).
By doing 2 seasons per decade, you’d get two shots, both at getting the players you want and getting a decent card for each player.
I’m not going to make a big push for this option, but I wanted to put it out there for consideration.
What’s your preference, 4 seasons or 8? How strongly do you feel about your preference?
