Is it possible to change the year of a player on your roster

PostTue Apr 14, 2020 7:58 pm

I would like to change the year used for a player that I received in the Autodraft. This would free up some budget and the performance in the alternate year is about the same.

Is this possible?

following waivers you can drop said player and pick-up his cheaper card. You will be subject to a drop penalty of 5%-20% depending on your league rules if you make the move after the season starts. Prior to the first game there is no penalty.

Easy to do but not until the waivers period is over.

Select the player and drop him. At this time, you have the option to pick up a replacement in the same move. Just select the different year of the same player and add him.
As long as you have enough cap space it will go through.
If you do it this way, he will never become a free agent so no one can grab him.

Thanks for the answers. So I drop and add after waivers are complete and before the first game.

Now I am wondering why I would use waivers for any roster change.
I must be missing something.
Sorry. This is my first team.

Thanks.

The reason for waivers is, after evaluating the draft with respect to the other teams and ballparks, you may feel you need to alter your roster by choosing an(some) undrafted player(s) instead of one(or more) that you did not pick. Waivers allows you to perform this (possibly) before another team can do the same. The waiver order is in reverse order of achieved (weighted) draft picks, it is listed on your team page.

Because some cards are more popular/underpriced than others. Here is a list - don't take it too seriously, its one man's opinion

Waivers gives everyone has a day or two to review the non-drafted players and decide if they want to add any of them. Then the waivers proceeds as described by mykeedee (first choice to the player who got the fewest players on their original draft card).
After the waivers period ends, all remaining free agents are available- first come, first served.

The alternative is a frenzy where all non-drafted players are immediately available to anyone. If you aren't online when the frenzy starts, then the other managers can make their roster changes before you. This can be a big disadvantage.

In either case, you don't need to worry about someone stealing one of the players on your team. If you have Babe Ruth 1927, you can swap for Babe Ruth 1921 at any time after waivers is over. Most managers select the least expensive year on the original draft card assuming they won't get everyone they want. This gives more flexibility with the salary cap when putting together the draft card. As long as you get the cheapest Babe Ruth, you control all of the Babe Ruths. After waivers you can decide which one to keep.
