Now go up to Adam Frazier. He is a 4yr player who Paul has extended for 4 years. Beginning with 2020 and going through 2023 Phil has filled in his salary at $5.18 per year. This to me means his contract in 2020 is handled as a player with 4 years of service. For the life of me I can't figure out why Urena goes from 1 year to 2 for the purposes of the 2020 contract yet Frazier stays at 4.

Frazier doesn't stay at four years, rather his last two years of arbitration have been bought out with a four year contract that begins in the 2020 season. Compare him to Margot, who completed his 4th year of service in 2019, and is entering his 5th year (arb 2) in 2020.

Remember, we are playing with last years cards, so a carded player who was a rookie last year, like Richard Urena, has completed 1 year of service. In the COTs contracts, that player would be listed as having 0.01 to 1.0 years of service depending on whether they were called up sometime during the season or were on the roster for the entire year. For Richard Urena that would be 0.156 years of service in the 2019 season, rounded up to 1 year for our purposes. When putting that player on the books for the as yet to be played 2020 season, we are signing him for service time he has not yet performed in the real world but will have performed by the time the cards are printed. For Richard Urena that would be 0.156 +1.0 = 1.156 rounded up to 2. Does that make sense?

I think I have to agree with oldman here regarding Urena. The COTS service time spreadsheet includes time through the 2019 season, correct (if incorrect you can probably ignore the rest of this). So his actual ML salary for the 2020 season yet to be played is based off that time. It would seem to me the same applies for our purposes. Since he's never played a full ML season, it's hard to assume from my standpoint that he'll even get a full season of service time in 2020. If he does, then I agree with the 1.156 rounded up to 2, but the 2 years through 2020 would affect his 2021 salary, not 2020.

Question for you guys. I have Gio Urshela a 3yr guy going to arbitration. If he comes in low and I only have to pay the league minimum, will it be the minimum for a 3yr player or a 4 yr player?

again, I thought there was no way to renew at 500,000. those guys with 1 year currently all move up a year and become 600,000. Am I wrong?

and the 2 year guys move up a year to the 700,000.

at least I thought that is what was just being discussed.

Arb 1&2 eligible players are treated the same.

I don't think that's his question Phil. I think he's saying would he get him at 2Mil or 3Mil and I believe it's 2 Mil but maybe I'm wrong and it's 3. he's asking because of this year interpretation question. does it constitute his 3rd or 4th year.

1 year = $500,000 per season ($0.50)
2 years = $1 million per season ($1.00)
3 years = $2 million per season ($2.00)
4 years = $3 million per season ($3.00)
5 years = $4 million per season ($4.00)
6 years = $5 million per season ($5.00)
7 years = $6 million per season ($6.00)

teamnasty and I were chatting back and forth last night and I asked him the same question.

Here is my example. I have Harrison Bader who is a 3-year guy with a SOM contract this year of $3.19 M I take him to ARB1 and I either get next years SOM salary or the salary schedule for him. But...does he count as a 3-year guy or a 4-year guy for next year's Salary Schedule.

I was under the assumption that he would count as $2 Mil or his SOM card and teamnasty thought the same. But today's year's of service talk makes me think maybe he's a $3 Mil or his SOm card.

Phil....help us out.
