Phil I just read your analysis of your contract decisions. Its very detailed and its the kinda thought I want to put in with my team so I make the hopefully best decisions. But right now I have hit a wall with this. I'm gonna need a few days to clear my head and try to get back in the mood of figuring this out with the new option in place. My team is ready to go so I won't be holding up the league starting. If that's not a problem, I'll try to have my revised contracts ready sometime early next week.

There is no rush on contract decisions since baseball isn't being played. If this were a normal year we'd want them in place before opening day.

SRH1200

There are some errors in your contracts, one of which is significant and may require a revised decision.

The significant error is with Hunter Renfroe who you offered a 4 year x $4,470,000 contract. As an ARB1 player you need to offer a 4 year x $7,160,000 contract to extend him.

Greg Allen and Clint Frazier need to be renewed at the current salaries and not the league minimum salaries.

Clint Mullins and Travis Demeritte need to be renewed at $600,000.

Derek Fisher and Jonathan Loaisiga need to be renewed at $700,000.

Let me know what you would like to do with these contracts.

So Phil you interpret the rule above to mean that players who make less than the minimum salary scale can be renewed via arbitration at the minimum salary, a la Alavardo at $2M? I'm not challenging you, just seeking clarification.

Have we got a final answer on this yet? Or is this what Phil is considering, that is, making it allowable for the 3-5 yr guys that have 2019 contracts below league minimums to be renewed for 2020 at the league minimums?

Here's my try at 2020:

6+ guys
1. Villar - 3 Yr extension @ $3.22 per
2. Wheeler - 3 Yr extension @ $3.67 per
3. Yates - 2 Yr extension @ $5.14 per
4. Hand - 1 Yr extension @ $2.74
5. Moustakas - 1 Yr extension @ $3.22

5 Yr guys
6. E. Rosario - renew @ $4.00

3-4 Yr guys
7. Narvaez renew @ $3.23
8. Alfaro renew @ $2.66
9. Olson - renew @ $5.19
10. McMahon - renew @ $2.43
11. Bregman - Arb2 (either $3 M or 2020 card price, whichever is higher, correct?)
12. T. Turner - 4 Yr extension @ $5.44 per
13. Dahl - renew @ $3.66
14. Kepler 4 Yr extension @ $7.16 per
15. Luis Castillo - 4 Yr extension @ $5.11 per
16. Newcomb - renew @ $1.89 (if it's $2M, I'll still renew)
17. Brebbia - renew @ $2.32

1-2 year guys
18. Viloria renew @ $.77
19. J. Rogers renew @ $1.69
20. Nate Lowe renew @ $2.96
21. Tellez renew $1.71
22. N. Lopez - renew @ $1.13
23. E. Jimenez - renew @ $1.54
24. Santander renew @ $1.93
25. F. Reyes - renew @ $2.15
26. Woodruff renew @ $4.75
27. Lucchesi renew @ $3.00
28. Quantrill renew @ $.73
29. W. Suero renew @ $2.00
30. Wick renew @ $3.33
31 R. Suarez renew @ $1.44
32. R. Harper renew @ $1.57

FA's
33. Davies
34. E. Hernandez
35. M. Rojas
36. Marisnick
37. G. Parra
38. Teheran
39. Avasail Garcia
40. Gott

I believe that gives me a total 2020 payroll commitment of $94.78 M, pending Bregman's arbitration case, and including $3 M in prospect salaries.

How does a "prospect" get his first salary? I'm thinking about possibly drafting Ke'Bryan Hayes. let's say he comes up this year and plays for Pittsburgh. Next year he gets a SOM card. Also, next year I decide to promote him from prospect status. What salary does he get?... and how does he move on from there?

thanks in advance for answers.

Section 9.06    Any player with an expiring contract that has less than 6 years of service time, but makes more than the salary scale above can be renewed for another year at the same salary. Players with more than 6 years of service time and an expiring contract are eligible for free agency.

Section 9.10    ARBITRATION: A player with an expiring contract who has more than 3 years and up to 6 years of service time qualifies for arbitration if the owner declines to offer a contract extension. If the owner chooses arbitration the player will be renewed at his major league salary based on service time or the salary established for his SOMO card for the following season, whichever is higher. The owner must decline to offer a contract extension prior to the release of the SOM card set for the upcoming season or the player will be automatically renewed for one year at their qualified major league salary as determined in Sections 9.05 and 9.06 above.

You can renew an arbitration eligible player at the major league minimum salary or his current salary, whichever is higher.

He is a prospect until you decide to promote him. Prospects must be promoted after three years.

Section 9.04    PROSPECT SALARIES: Prospects are carried at $500,000 per year renewed annually until they are promoted to the 40-man roster or released.

His year 1 salary is $500,000. If you draft him this year and promote him next year he costs $500,000 in each of those years.

Right I got that. But my question was about his salary.

ok. so I promote him next year. What is his salary for that year? I'm assuming it is 500,000 (or 600,000?) but NOT his SOM card price.
