I would like it if we could play players out of position. Having all the Dimaggio brothers in the outfield would be cool.

They ask for cards like Hugh Duffy (.440 batting average) , play in unlimited cap leagues, and then say, "there's too much offense.." ... Gee, I wonder why.

I like how everyone dodged my question about how many of the people making the new prices are competing in the tournament.

Any CFer should be able to play RF or LF, just like the board game and CD-ROM.

The game engine supports 2b and SS & OF positions being 'transferable' when unrated as per those SOM CD-ROM rules. For example, CF-1 can go to RF-1 or LF-1. But, the Manager GUI does NOT support being able to select a player for a position they are not rated at.

This can be overcome with some difficulty based on how the game engine will interpret and substitute a player at a position in your lineup when there is NO eligible player on your roster at that position. The game engine will also maintain the open place in your lineup for the substitute it selects. This will only work as I describe if there is no one rated at that position on your roster. I have leveraged this effectively on two teams. I had no one rated in LF on my roster and left the position batting fifth open in my lineup. I had two starting quality RFs on my team with one of them left out of my lineup who was rated as a RF-2 (with no rating in LF). HAL correctly put him in LF batting 5th for every single game. His fielding stats were consistent with a 2 rating (and his e rating). It worked the entire season without a hiccup. I haven't done't it with two shortstops and no second basemen (which would be harder to orchestrate). But, I am sure it would work the same way.

You are correct about the outfield. there is no such provision for infield switches.

I believe the current rules, which differ from the board game, would make a CF playing another outfield position (unless of course the position is a possible alternate for him on his card) a 5.

That's ridiculous.

Bingo ... Then again I may be the single biggest conspiracy theorist in this game.

Ok. Read this closer. The rules might not address the practice.

Imagine that. :?

The Manager GUI can't handle it. But, the game engine knows what to do.

I did this for an entire season in two leagues. LF-2 out of position both times (different e rating). The fielding metrics (X Tot X Out X Tot X Out) for All Positions were faithful with what you would expect for a LF-2. If you've ever played a 4 or 5 in the corner OF (I have), the metrics you get for a 4 or 5 are very different. It works as intended just like the CD-ROM game.
