What happens when Bagwell faces only lefty pitching

PostTue Apr 28, 2020 7:44 pm

Here's what happens when Bagwell faces only lefty pitching: https://365.strat-o-matic.com/team/1547632

In 87 games, he has 70 homers, 149 RBIs and is hitting .417, slugging 1.083.

It's an all lefty pitcher league, $140M cap.

That was an amazing year for him. 116 RBIs in 110 games was a pace not seen since the 30s. What is noteworthy is that he broke his hand by being hit by a pitch a game before the season ended with the strike. It is unlikely he would have returned if there had been no strike since Houston would probably have faded from the WC race without him in the lineup. A rushed return for the last week of September would have been ill-advised for a team out of contention for the playoffs.

I thought about joining this league but couldn't bear the idea of watching all those lefty pitchers get clobbered--game after game-- by Bagwell, Gibson, Hodges, Lezcano, Posey, Fielder, Juan-Gone, etc, etc.

Couple of more names. Kevin Mitchell 9L, Cecil Fielder 3L, Willie Horton 3L, Joe Adcock 3L. Dick Allen's 7.88 card is just a hair short of Sammy Sosa's 11 mil plus card in terms of OPS, 1.919 to 2.205 with no park effects on dope.

Funny, we also tried a league of only righty pitchers/lefty or switch hitters, and the results are much more pedestrian: .817 OPS leaguewide, 5.19 ERA leaguewide after 81 games.
