Hall of Famer Joe Sewell still a 4
So ridiculous.
Hardly a one dimensional player, Sewell led American League shortstops in fielding percentage three times and finished in the top five six times. He shifted to third base in 1929 and, after signing with the Yankees in 1931, was the regular third baseman for the Yankees club that won the 1932 World Series.
He played shortstop for eight straight years without missing a game!
No way was he a 4!!
They were not idiots back then. If his range was that bad they would have moved him to third early on.
So, the online guys don't have a whole lot of sway on the card ratings. Those come from the main company. For whatever reason, they felt he was a 4. Doesn't seem right when he was able to lead the league in assists. I mean, that may not mean he was a one for various reasons, it does tell you it's not likely he was a 4!
The high e-rats might be playing into it, but it really shouldn't if it's super advanced.
You'd have to call Hal at SOM HQ and ask him.
