Nah- it should just be 1931-1934
those are the only legit years anyone should recognize- gosh, the game was just so totally different after 34 with the change in barometric pressure, types of popcorn and crackerjacks, lets not forget how much that affected the players.
NOT even mentioning the uniform sizes.

Just thought we needed some counter-programming to keep this thread going a little bit longer... :P

Maybe they should have made the abitrary cut off for ATG9 at 1911 considering the fact that, except for Forbes' '09, our list of ballparks begin with all 16 MLB parks from that year.

Good point. I thought Strat does the individual cards for a team so that they would accurately reproduce the season for the team. A player's card is thus connected to the ballparks he plays in and the other players on a team. So, if you dont have ballpark ratings for the ballparks they played in and youre not even trying to simulate a season...then how do they even do these pre-1900 cards?

Why did we spend the past few years researching players to nominate, then get them voted in, only to have them put in a subset!?

This is not a jab at you Freeman, but it was the latest as a counterpoint to use as a foil. The online version of SOM has never been about recreation of a season. That's how the cards are normalized--ie, a way they are statistically modeled--but nothing about this online game is a season replay. Not the 20xx game, not ATG, none of it.

When ATG first launched, yes, The cards were released by team.So what? That still has no bearing on the fact we are not doing season replays. We pay for and draft our own teams. Why is that hard to understand?

We have 6, 12, or 24 teams in leagues where we mix players of era and teams. We don't limit the playing time. We don't play the original teams and schedules.

Basically, we have people with 40 ABs who play full seasons. Those players were voted in by long time customers of this game. I've been playing SOM online since 2003, and now somehow they change the default player set after 9 versions. That's the problem. This realism stuff is a red herring and a distraction.

1911 is the introduction of the "Lively Ball." It wasn't until the 19-teens that major league baseball was consistently played in stadiums.

1992 or 1993 were the last years before the offensive explosion of the '90s, which I would consider the post-modern era of major league baseball.

Further, journeyman players who had crazy stats in partial seasons (Gates Brown, Don Padgett, *cough, cough*) should be available in the the "Unleashed" set, but not part of the core game. Thus you would have a true "All-Time Greats" game with option to bring in recent players, pre-deadball players, and some wacked out partial season cards.
