What's the highest win team to NOT make the playoffs?

PostSat May 16, 2020 12:50 pm

Here's a 97 win team that didn't make the playoffs for me last night:

Missed out on the playoffs via the tie breaker because The Last Druid swept the best team in the league on the final night of the season to get the wildcard with 97 wins also.

Here's the league:

Which brought up the question ... What's the most wins you've ever seen a team have and still miss the playoffs.

wow -- I don't think 97 can be "beaten"

I went through 700 + ATG8 teams I didn't even come close to 97 wins, but since I took all of that time to look, I'm going to post my results......I won 93 on two different occasions and failed to make post season.

Here are the Stinky Catchin' Nomads - $125 DH - Themed league where all catchers couldn't have a MINUS arm.

Here are the Puget Sound Nomads - !40 DH
https://365.strat-o-matic.com/league/428831

These two leagues were played approximately 2 years apart from each other....interesting comparisons:
JeffMueller in West TN put me out of the playoffs in both leagues! He and I long time friends/foes
teamsters805 won 86 games in both leagues...kind of interesting....another long time friend/foe.

In one of the leagues LuisT23 also won 93 games and missed the playoffs! yes, 3 teams won 93 and only 1 of them made the playoffs! Yes it was JeffMueller in West TN...congrats Jeff you can always hold that one above me.

coffeeholic wont the $125 stinky catcher league......Nevdully's won the $140 DH league.

Those leagues were tough beats, but, nothing compared to what egvrich went through....thanks for sharing rich!

Hats off to Dr. Biocide. He won 104 games playing a .500 dollar outfielder and a 1.87 dollar CF'er. Thats thinking outside the box!

When I clicked on the link provided in the first post I looked at the 4 teams in the division. The toughest division I have ever saw, but the 2 players Biocide played stood out more then anything.

Since we're ignoring the originally intended topic, that 104 team is a case study of the min-max. That specific Forbes Field, two 29 game winners, 47.1 combined relief innings from a $ 3M bullpen, a platoon at DH (?) of Backman and Wiggins scoring 115 runs (they must have batted last?), Brain / Smith / Gipson good fielding regulars for less than $ 4M pretty much throwing away 6 - 7 - 8 in the lineup.

So, the Backman / Wiggins platoon bats last at DH, Biz with only 50 runs scored must have hit 5th in front of the peanut gallery, hard to be sure after that. Suzuki and Carew the top two and Sisler and Davis 3 / 4.

By the way, the best I can do is this 92 win team that missed. https://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/league/441620

If Dr. Biocide hadn't lost the last two, he would have had two 30 game winners. Now that may have been accomplished before, but I can't recall ever seeing it. In game 162 Pete Alexander pitched 10 innings before losing. Just an incredible season for him.

For my part, my team was a swan song for the greatly underpriced non*starting pitchers, at least those that I was able to snag. Also for Sutter, Mike Jackson and Urbina all of whom went up significantly in price. If I had just gotten Heredia to platoon with Sutton...

I also tried a couple of guys I almost never use: Tejeda and Dale Murphy. I didn't have high hopes for my team at the outset of the season or at any point during the season. The season ended up as probably the most lopsided division dominance I have ever seen. Not the hardest though. The last two Barnstormers Finals, with Lab, Hallerose, Jet 40 and more recently the guys who finished 3-6 in the regular season portion of the tour. The finals were between the two best records in that division. Those were the toughest divisions I have ever been in or seen.
