We need more scrubs for franchise leagues

PostSat Jun 06, 2020 2:47 pm

Everyone has different preferences when it comes to how to prioritize expanding the atgv9 player set... For those of you like me who like to play franchise theme leagues, and iconic team (i.e 1975 Reds, 1986 Mets).. will have noticed some franchises are very shallow in some positions with low dollar back up players.. Expansion era White Sox have Ray Durham at 2b.... and...........the stellar defense of Jorge Orta to back him up... I would like to see Strat just drop a full modern era team to help... My vote would be to add the following, entire teams to close the gap: 2005 White Sox, 2016 Cubs, 2018 Red Sox, 1998 Yankees, 2008 Phillies, 2019 Nats, 2017 Astros, 2015 KC Royals, 1998 Padres, 2012 SF Giants, 2011 Texas Rangers, 1995 Atlanta Braves, 2002 Angels, 1979 Pirates, 2004 Stl Cardinals, 2018 LA Dodgers, etc.. anyone else who likes this idea please join this thread for a discussion we could take to SOM with enough community support.. thanks

Check out Jake Marisnick on the Hitters with NO Card. Great OF defense, all 3 spots, TERRIBLE hitting. Should be fairly cheap because of that.

Thanks Andy, but the intention of my post was not to add a few players at a time.. because in these 25 players at a time add cycles no one is thinking about the scrubs.. to balance things we need more full team adds, like we did with the 2001 Mariners, 1994 Expos.. I know it might be a lot more cards to price, but it would give us that critical mass of scrubs we need to create better franchise leagues..

How do we get there?

Thanks for the input. I'm already working on some ideas in this area, and will be checking with Strat re the possibilities of getting some additional teams added.

Here are the current card counts for the Expansion era, along with the seasons with a full team, by franchise.

The White Sox, Twins, Indians, and Giants have no team, and subsequently the lowest card counts, other than the four most recent franchises.

COL 51 (2007)
FLA 51 (2003)
TB 53 (2008)
ARI 54 (1999)
CHW 54
MIN 58
CLE 69
SF 70
PHI 76 (1977)
SD 78 (1984)

MIL 81 (1982)
TOR 81 (1985)
LA 87 (1977)
KC 91 (1980)
CIN 92 (1975)
DET 95 (1968, 1984)
STL 95 (1987)
BAL 97 (1970, 1983)
CAL 99 (1979, 1982)
HOU 99 (1986)

CHC 101 (1970, 1984)
SEA 101 (1984, 2001)
PIT 102 (1971, 1979)

More Scrubs for the franchises of the 2000's. Strat has updated the set with more stars of that era, and those who had some great seasons. Now it needs to add the bench to go along with them.

thanks for the information BC15NY.. Here is the list I would like to see.. If SOM adds something like this, I guarantee there will be a huge number of new franchise leagues started:

Arizona already has 1999, could add with 2001 WC
San Diego add 1998 LC team
Colorado already has 2007, could add 2018 play off team
LA Dodgers add 2017 LC team
SF Giants add 2012 WC team

Cinn Reds add 2012 Reds, playoff team with 97 wins
Cubs add 2016 WC
STL Cardinals add 2004 LC, 105 wins
Pirates add 2015 wild card team with 98 wins
Brewers add 2011 team, 96 wins, lost NLCS

Marlins already has 2003, could add other WC team from 1997
Phillies add 2008 WC
Mets add 2015 LC
ATL Braves add 1995 World Champs
Washington Nats add 2019 World Champs

Red Sox add 2018 WC
Yankees add 1998 WC
Rays already has 2008, but could add 96 win 2019 team
Orioles add 2014 playoff team with 96 wins
Blue Jays add 1993 World Champs

Tigers add 2012 LC
White Sox should add 2005 WC as a priority
Indians add full 1995 team, powerful LC
Royals add 2015 WC
Twins add 1991 WC

Angels add 2008 playoff team, 100 wins
Mariners already have 2001, probably ok for now, but could add 1995
A's add 2002, 103 win moneyball team
Rangers add 2011 LC
Astros add 2017 WC

I am also a fan of franchise-themed leagues and would love to see more individual/complete teams added to ATG.

The last 20-30 years is the thinnest part of the set, and where scrubs are in shortest supply.

It would seemingly make sense to start with franchises which don't yet have a full team in the set, although even with a single franchise, two teams 20 years apart are completely distinct anyway. It would be great if every franchise had one fully carded team in every twenty year time period.

My not-exhaustive wish list includes

Braves/Yankees of the late 90's
Giants and Red Sox - pick a post 2000 WS champ team
Indians, a 90's team and/or maybe 2016
02 Angels
87 or 91 Twins, heck how bout 2019 while we're at it?
2015 Royals
05 White Sox
17,19 or 09 Dodgers
91/92 and/or 2015 Pirates
90 and/or 2012 Reds
an early 2000's A's team

BC15NY, the problem with low scrub count is two-fold.. 1.) many franchises do not have complete teams loaded, so they lack scrub depth... 2.) the expansion era spans 50 years... the back up players on the 1969 Mets, don't fit with the players from more contemporary teams...

Again, a quick improvement would be to add some full, modern teams to the set.. Please keep us informed if you make progress here.. I know a lot of time and effort is invested in the individual player add cycles.. but this problem, does not get fixed without a path to getting full team loads.. maybe just a few at a time, start with the franchises like the White Sox that don't have a base team to work with.. thanks
