The idea that a pitcher is charged with an earned run he might not normally deserve or a batter gets credited with an RBI he might not normally deserve doesn't sit well with me. I'd rather accept tie games after 10 or 11 innings, although I'm not sure of the motive for the rule change.
MLB has announced that if the runner on 2B scores it is NOT an earned run for the pitcher. They will treat it as if the runner got on base on an error. However it still is an RBI for the hitter.
The reason for this is that the current commissioner is obsessed with speeding up games and this is just another thing to do just that. He thinks shortening games by a few minutes will bring back fans that have left because they think the game is too slow and boring. I don't agree with all of his tricks to shorten games but I do like t he new rule that makes RP stay in the game for at least 3 batters or the end of the half inning. All those RP changes, especially in September when they have expanded rosters, is tedious.
