Team Turnover/Does IT Affect Play?

PostFri Jul 10, 2020 1:37 am

Two season in a row I have gotten rid of lots of players. The season before I went overboard because my players couldn't hit. Yelich, Bregman and Rendon all hit under .220. I was over 100 runs net deficit. I had two losing streaks over 13 games.

This season my bullpen has blown 29 saves! How I am only 10 games below .500 is remarkable.
Does the AI Computer penalize you for getting rid of players?

They really should have a minor league option where you can call up minor league players for free.

In real life, you might be willing to go through several bad seasons to get good.
There is only one season online, so why just hold your under performing players and stay pat?

Any information on this would be appreciated.

Are you playing the mystery or non- mystery leagues? If mystery, there is a whole body of knowledge on this forum as to dropping cards. If non mystery, there is typically a salary penalty when you Drop so drop carefully. Everybody does it to some extent but every time you do you lose salary cap space.

As a general rule, you never, ever drop players. Sometimes it's hard to fight that instinct... "I'm in last place, I've got to do something to fix my team!" But you're only lowering the value of your team with every transaction, due to the salary penalty. You're replacing your players with cheaper players, and it just makes the situation worse.
Remember, this isn't real baseball, and these aren't humans. Yelich has an excellent card, and it never changes... If he's not hitting, it's just bad luck (or a combination of other factors such as your ballpark, your opponents' pitchers, etc.) Replacing him with a cheaper player is never the answer. And replacing him with a minor-leaguer would be insane.
All you can do is draft your team wisely, be patient, and hope that the dice will be kind!

Thanks to both Gentlemen for the kind replies!!
I will heed the advice and NOT drop players unless absolutely necessary.
Good Luck!!

When I was new I made gobs of moves in free agency...and I won. I ended up with 50-65 mil from 80 initially. Personally I think winning or losing is more about whether or not your players are in the sweet zone of HAL's dice rolls than anything else. From one season to another a given player's production can be wildly different. And for cheaper player cards you can get lucky for briefer periods of time if you find a compatible groove with HAL on his hit numbers. Just keep picking and replacing - if no good comes of them. Of course it's exhausting to play that way but having finished in the playoffs my first four teams that way it can be done. And this is all NON-mystery league fare.

Thanks "Fredpaii"

That was my philosophy before as well, but my luck didn't change.
I only have played 4 seasons and made the playoffs in my 3rd season winning 92 games with the leagues best record, only to have Mike Trout get injured for 8 games in the first round! LOL

Thanks Again for the suggestion.

I guess it was only my first three teams. Not four.

Very welcome of course. I do recommend strategies not so hands on during the season. It's a lot less stressful on you and if you can develop a good strategy that way it's the best way to go. But I'm waaaaayyy too neurotic for that!
