David,

I hope we can update each other on how our small ball teams do against the power teams. I have a feeling it would be easier to make a small team competitive in an $80m league than a $100m or $200m where teams can really load up on sluggers. But this will be my first time trying a team without relying on HR power. As I put together the initial roster, the $200m seems really close to unlimited. I could afford the 5 best no* SPs, a bevy of power arm relievers, and 4-5 hitters who are $10m plus. I might try to convince my brother to do a $160m or lower cap.

I've had success with it at 80 and 100. I don't think it has much of a chance of working at 200. I could be wrong

Agree with Steve.
Highest cap I played small was this team at 140M. 99 wins with 62 wins at home(!) but lost in semis. And still had to have Josh Gibson and Josh Hamilton. Not impossible--just that it takes more skill than I have. I would not tempt fate again--thin margin for error.

Mickey -- I think it would be very difficult to win with a small-ball team with a high salary cap...just too many top hitters. Even the $100M that we have is fairly high -- I think the regular $80M would be best for this.

Anyway, I'm 6-3, with all three losses by one run. But all nine games have been at Petco...traveling down the road (I'm in Columbus) to Riverfront Stadium for tonight's games. So far I've given up 15 runs -- the fewest by a lot (one team at 25 and all of the others >30), but I've only scored 29 runs (the second fewest). But my run differential is the most at +14...and that's the key stat.

Good luck!

This is my usual type of recipe for a Petco type team
