Semi's game 6

https://onlinegames.strat-o-matic.com/game/448090/983

This is my normal lineup:
1 Guerrero, Pedro (1985) (R) I-1 LF 3(+1)e10 1R .320 .397 .587 .320 .422 .577 Rucker, Johnny (1944) (L)
2 Galarraga, Andres (1988) (R) 1B 1e16 1R .297 .338 .546 .302 .352 .540
3 Nevin, Phil (2001) (R) 3B 4e32 E .270 .331 .531 .306 .388 .588
4 Gonzalez, Juan (1993) (R) RF 3(0)e6 1L .279 .318 .547 .310 .368 .632 Rucker, Johnny (1944) (L)
5 Grich, Bobby (1979) (R) 2B 2e16 1R .276 .333 .521 .294 .365 .537
6 Henderson, Dave (1988) (R) CF 2(-2)e10 E .278 .338 .482 .304 .363 .525 Rucker, Johnny (1944) (L)
7 Realmuto, J.T. (2017) (R) C 2(-2)e4 1L .253 .288 .395 .278 .332 .451
8 Bowa, Larry (1977) (S) SS 1e14 E .266 .287 .309 .280 .313 .340
9 Pitcher

I lost Pedro for the semi's, but as you can see I have Rucker as his backup.

HAL uses this lineup for game 6:

Hitters AB R H RBI BA
L. Bowa SS 5 0 3 0 .360
J. Realmuto C 5 0 1 0 .200
P. Nevin 3B 3 1 0 0 .435
J. Gonzalez RF 4 1 1 2 .333
B. Grich 2B 4 0 0 0 .200
D. Henderson CF 3 0 0 0 .333
A. Galarraga 1B 3 1 1 0 .333
J. Rucker LF 4 0 1 1 .125
J. Degrom P 2 0 0 0 .000
L. Smith P 0 0 0 0 ----
A. Liska P 0 0 0 0 ----
A - P. Crawford PH 1 0 1 0 .333

What manager would lead off my 2 weakest hitters?

Why didn't you set the lineup yourself?

If I wanted Rucker to leadoff I would have set the lineup just as Visick did. It seems clear than the leadoff hitter has been explicitly defined as either Guerrero or his backup. For HAL to establish a batting order before assigning a backup is an ill-advised software design. The least they could do is specify in the help instructions that that is how things work.

Although, in fairness to HAL, Bowa and Realmuto are better hitters than Rucker and it seems reasonable that Bowa's speed makes for a reasonable choice to leadoff. Also, Realmuto sometimes bats second in real life, so...all in all, not a bad decision by HAL if he insists on going rogue.

This was just posted in another league I'm in. Whether you agree with it or not, it explains why the lineup was shuffled:

milleram wrote:Hal will rearrange lineup from injured spot down--usually with the highest OB 1st, though it could be highest OPS 1st (a lot of the time that is the same guy)--I hate it when leadoff or #2 guy gets hurt .

Several people have complained about it over the years--but generally it is better than a .5 bench guy leading off.

Again, Bowa / Realmuto ARE NOT my best OB/OPS guys.

I have no problem with a lineup being shuffled IF that were the case.

My experience has been that if you have an injured player in slots 1-6 in your designated lineup, HAL will re-order your batting order based on HAL's programming using the sub player. Those lineup choices seem to be based on more classic strategy; speed at the top, etc. I have found that if an injured player is in slots 7-9 in my batting order HAL will leave the batter in place and not change the batting order.

This is from a Garcia Blog post a few years ago:

Now the lineup itself. When an injury occurs to the bottom part of the order, it does not totally rearrange it. The new player just slots in where the computer manager felt he belonged. However when an injury occurs to the top half of the order, it needs to rearrange in order to avoid putting poor backups at the top of the order. In this case the computer manager runs through a number of different lineup options and internally selects the one it calculates to be the most productive, based on card value and handedness matchup with the pitcher. The difference in runs scored is probably minute between the various lineups, but the computer goes with the one it selects it has the most.

If a guy is injured, HAL will always bat his replacement at the bottom of the order.

how do you explain this lineup adjustment?

my lineup vs. lefties

Hamilton
Waner
mcgee
lajoie
lindstrom
prothro
parent
oliver
Santiago cheapest version

Mcgee injured 3 games Hal's lineup

Hamilton
Waner
Santiago
Lindstrom
Oliver
Prothro
Parent
Lajoie
Mcgee replacement

It should never move your cleanup guy to the 8 hole. Plus Oliver weaker against lefties get moved up in the order above Prothro. Hal's on weed.
