"Fan cut-outs"

PostMon Jul 27, 2020 7:51 pm

On a curmudgeonly note: I was wondering how much people would pay for these stadium “cutouts,” just a dumb act of narcissism and pathetic yelp in our bleak era of sports. Answer—$100. Really!

Like P.T. Barnum Bailey said, there’s a sucker born every day!

I realize some among us may have bought these, so you really need to question your reality. They look kinda creepy and certainly fake, and entirely ego-infused. This, and the fake crowd noises being piped in, just make it all look weird. I know we're trying to do the best in our circumstance, so I actually don't mind everyone's free will -- but just saying I'd never pay that kind of money to show I wasn't really at the game.

$100 bucks to certain people in the Bay Area is like a nickel or dime to the average working man. I don't think it is that narcissistic , or anymore so than a fan getting his team's jersey with his name on it. They want to show they are fans...

But I agree with you, I would never do it....

I was thinking part of the reason for it is so when team staff and VIPs want to sit in the stands they are slightly harder to pick out, from the cardboard cutouts.

Oh, HELL yeah! I'm gonna dress up as a cardboard cutout and sneak in. They'll never know.

Agree on the cutouts -- ridiculous at ANY price.
However, on the fake crowd noise -- not "great" but I think it is probably better than silence mixed with the occasional player-uttered expletive...

I plan on ordering a cut out. Of my kitten or maybe a family member. I'll ask them to place it in the bleachers.

That way when Diaz and Familia let up 9th inning homeruns I can say, "hey look. The ball just went over the kitten's head!" Then maybe the pain won't be as bad. Maybe.

If your cutout is broken by a foul ball, do they send you the ball?

The White Sox I believe are donating the money raised to charity. Just saying.

Disclaimer: Lifelong Cubs fan, don't give a rats ass about the Sox.

I think it is a hoot! Get a picture there, contribute to charity. I love it!

I hope baseball can continue. I'm worried.
