We've lost a longtime Barnstormer

PostFri Jul 31, 2020 8:08 pm

I am saddened to hear of the passing of longtime Barnstormers player Don Snyder (rehaber2). I was informed of this by his son Murray who also has been playing on the tour (Badriders). My records show Don playing from as far back as my records go to 2009 and every year since then. I am sure that his absence from the 2020 tour was likely due to illness.

Please join me in offering condolences to Murray and his family on their loss.

So sorry to hear that news. Played in a number of leagues together over the years.

Thank you all for your words. Dad was the guy who would ask everyone in the league why they choose their team names. He would show me the responses to prove that 9 times out of 10 there was a story behind players' team names. The reason why Dad was not a great player is that he would rarely choose players he didn't know. He grew up in Terre Haute Indiana in the 30s and 40s. He was a huge fan of the Terre Haute Phillies that played in the Illinois-Indiana-Iowa (or 3-I league). Although he was brilliant, he never paid attention to the math of strat! He enjoyed watching the players he watched growing up, the Cardinals he listened to on the radio in the late 30s and 40s...then moving to Madison Wi for grad school in the 50s, The MKE Braves and then our beloved Brewers! His favorite player of all-time was Stan Musial (mine is Robin Yount)
Dad was also a big basketball fan. He grew up about a 7 iron away from the Indiana St. campus. Dad attended Indiana State High School which was on the college campus. He was the team manager for his high school team. The high school and college teams shared the same gym. The head coach took a liking to my father and would pass on a few tips to him now and then. The head coach was the great John Wooden. And yes, our family loves Larry Bird!
