Update 7

Overall:
Hitter wins versus pitchers: 228
Pitcher wins versus hitters: 192

Hitter win percentage: 54.28%

Division leaders remain the same--the hitters division is the closest Juiced JC's club has a 2 game lead over Fench33's club. The Central (mixed) is a runaway--Burley Norseman's team is closing in on a wire to wire victory---he holds a 12 game lead and has a run differential of 205--the club is averaging 6.8 runs per game. In the pitching division, the BC Manager holds a 6 game lead. Amazingly, Roger Clemens pitching in the Astrodome has a record of 7-21 despite an ERA of 3,84.
The wild card leader is now Buddabear's (hitter) with a 2 game lead. The league has completed 138 games.

Interesting statistics: Tony Gwynn is hitting .388---of the top 9 hitters, nine come from the hitting teams--only Garrett Anderson (.323), Carolos Baerga (.321) and Jon Nunnally (.308) are from pitcher teams.

Leaders in doubles: The top three hitters are from Burley Norseman's Rocky Mountain Rejects---Tony Gwynn has 49, Jason Giambi has 40 and Barry Bonds 39.

Home run leaders: Mark McGwire (Fench33 Beaver Pelts) has 58. Manny Ramirez (Juiced JC's Heavy Hitters) has 54. Barry Bonds has 46.

Kevin Seitzer has drawn 22 intentional walks--Kevin plays for Drabb9529's Pitchers Gone Wild! team---Kevin is hitting .261 so it's unclear why he's drawn so many intentional walks.

Pitching--Wins---Dennis Martinez (Be Kind 2 Others) leads the league with 19 wins---Todd Stottlemyre (Heavy Hitters) is second with 18 wins---Greg Maddux--team mate of Dennis also has 18 wins.

League leader in saves? Xavier Hernandez from the Rocky Mountain Rejects has 32. Tom Henke (BC Managers Pudge Rockets) has 30 while Jeff Reardon (Falcon29's Smashmouth Hogs) has 28.

Three pitchers--Pedro Martinez and Hideo Nomo (Fatdaddy's Atlanta Skinwalkers) 11.53 and 11.08 are averaging over 10 strikeouts--Randy Johnson (JJB92's Blueprint for Armageddon 10.97.

If this is something that sparks an interest in other managers... another league - different year (70s) - is forming. It is listed on the discussion home page with the listing "New league--Hitting vs Pitching---70s style".

Week 8 update---159 games played

The east, west and wild card race is coming down to the last 3 games---tonight's games will determine which teams continue to the playoffs. Only Burley Norseman's Rocky Mountain Rejects are assured of a playoff spot (This is based on records only--did not evaluate the tiebreakers)--Burley's club is 100-59 and have scored 1105 runs with 3 games to go. The Rejects are averaging 6.95 runs per game and have a run differential of +271

Overall results:
Hitters 246 wins
Pitchers 204 wins

Hitters have won 54.66% of the games.

East--Hitters: Juiced JCs' Heavy Hitters have a 3 game lead over Fench33s Beaver Pelts by 3 games.
Central--Mixed---Budabear's Rakuten Monkeys hold a 1 game lead over NewCar's Be Kind 2 Others team in the wild card race. There is still a chance of 6 teams ending up with 84 wins which will strain the tiebreaker system.
West: Pitchers: BC Managers Houston Pudge Rockets hold a one game lead over SPhillips8's RI Aces--the two play tonight to settle the division and possibly the wild card.

Review of the dispersal draft--seven players were made available to the pitching centric teams---the seven available are listed below along with their statistics.

First pick: Barry Larkin .277/.327./.345 (as the owner--a massive disappointment leading team to worst record in league
Roberto Alomar .262/.336/.409
Kenny Lofton.255/.336/.363
Ryne Sandberg .267/.306/.471
Ivan Rodriguez .260/.329/.407
Omar Vizquel .263/.328/.350

Not drafted by pitching team--drafted by Cabrera24's Hit/Pitch Challenge
Charles Johnson: .268/.362/.544 (35 homers, 101 RBI)

It certainly was challenging trying to put together a pitching staff of scrubs, but I really didn't get any breaks either.

I used a total of 17 pitchers this season:
Chris Hammond and John Dopson were on their best cards.
Pete Schourek and Joe Grahe were on mid-range cards.
Jeff Reardon, Jason Grimsley and John Wasdin were on their second-worst cards.
Chuck McElroy, Mike Jackson, Jeff Nelson, Brian Bohanon, Greg Cadaret, Dennis Rasmussen, Cal Eldred, Bruce Ruffin, Albie Lopez and John Farrell were all on their worst cards.

No wonder I was dead last in team pitching!

Anyway, it was a fun concept, and well run. Good luck to all of you who are moving on to the 70s.
