Stadiums—the following stadiums are available—the stadiums available to the owners of the pitchers and hitters are listed below. These are the only stadiums that can be selected for use. The numbers appearing after the stadium name is a summary of the 4 components of the stadium ratings. Owners are free to select the stadium of their choice for their type of team. There are 7 eligible parks for each team type.

Pitching centric:

Games played: 117 games

There have been 378 games played between the pitching and hitting centric teams. The hitting teams put a bit more distance between the two styles--the season series now shows the following

Hitting teams: 192 wins (50.7%)
Pitching teams: 186 wins (49.3%)

Division leaders---the division leaders extended their leads in all 3 divisions. It doesn't appear any of the 3 races repeat the outcome of the 90s when the division winners weren't decided until the last games of the season.

East (Hitting): Newcar13's Be Kind to Others now has a 9 game lead in the East with a record of 73-44 (+134--best in the league).

Central: (mixed): Franky35's Low Smoke (Pitching) leads the division by 12 games-- Low Smoke a run differential of +125

West (Pitching) The BC Managers' Preseid Meteor Showers now holds a 4 game lead and a run differential of +4

Wild card race: Hitting team Burley Norseman's Beantown Brawl Coolbeans (64-53 +71) hold a 1 game over Bigdinkent's Diamond Duds (+65), a fellow hitting team. Sphillip8's RI Aces (Pitching) are 58-59 (-25), 6 games off the pace.

Highest scoring hitting team: The Diamond Duds have scored 827 runs--an average of 7.06 runs per game.
Fewest runs allowed--pitching teams: Low Smoke took over the lead in this category--they are allowing only 4.31 runs per game

Observations of interest:

7 teams are under .500---4 are pitching centric teams, 3 are hitting centric teams.

Best home team: Franky35's Low Smoke have a record of 42-18 in their home stadium-Yankee Stadium
Worst record for a home team: JJB92's A Handful of Pain is not enjoying home cooking in Metropolitan Stadium---20-37

Only one team--Be Kind 2 Others----is over .500 on the road---Be Kind has a record of 33-24 on the road. It appears home field is important in this version of the league.

The top 5 hitters in terms of batting average are all left handed hitters

Rod Carew (Beantown Brawl Coolbeans) .387
George Brett (Jose Rijo's Morningside Martinis) .364
Ron Blomberg (Juicded JC's All Hit No Pitch) .363
Jose Cruz (Be Kind 2 Others) .343
Bill Buckner (Drabb9529's Minimum Wagers) .342

Home Run leaders--three of the top 5 are on the Diamond Duds

Dick Allen (Diamond Duds) 42
Jim Rice (Be Kind 2 Others) 40
Reggie Jackson (Diamond Duds) 35
Roberto Clemente (Beantown Brawl Coolbeans) 34
Harmon Killebrew (Diamond Duds) 34

Stolen bases

Bobby Bonds (Morningside Martinis) 43
Rod Carew (Beantown Brawl Coolbeans) 38
Davey Lopes (Morningside Martinis) 38

Pitching: ERA

Wilbur Wood (Low Smoke) 2.59
JR Richard (Perseid Meteor Showers) 2.89
Bob Gibson (RI Aces) 2.92

Interesting fact---Both JR Richard and Bob Gibson were drafted by Fench33's Beaver Pelts.

Stats with the Beaver Pelts:
JR Richard: 4 games: 1-2 31 IP 27 hits--ERA 4.26, WHIP 1.46
Bob Gibson: 9 games: 2-6 62 IP 62 hits--ERA 4.74 WHIP 1.36

Stats with new teams:
JR Richard: 19 games 13-4 156 IP 118 hits--ERA 2.60 WHIP 1.12
Bob Gibson: 21 games 9-6 174 IP 137 hits ERA 2.27 WHIP 1.04

Shutouts:

Wilbur Wood--4

But the next two pitchers are from hitting centric teams:

Francisco Barrios--Beantown Brawl Coolbeans---2
Matt Keough--Be Kind 2 Others-2 (originally part of Morningside Martinis--released)

Gary Nolan--Low Smoke 2 (originally part of RI Aces---released after going 0-2 with a WHIP of 1.77/ERA of 9.69

ERA: Pat Jarvis (Presid Meteor Showers) 2.71 (Pat was a mid season pickup--he joined around game 60)

Games played: 159 games

There have been 450 games played between the pitching and hitting centric teams. The pitching teams have reclaimed the lead in the season series--and will win the season series--there are only six games remaining between the two styles.

Pitching teams: 229 wins (50.9%)
Hitting teams: 221wins (49.1%)

The playoffs teams are all set---the only pending question is the winner of the east/wild card winner.

Congrats to the 4 playoff teams and their owners

East (Hitting): Newcar13's Be Kind to Others had a tough week--the 8 game lead is down to one game with three to go. Be Kind 2 Others will close the series with second place Beantown Brawl Coolbeans. Be Kind to others have a run differential of +107 and a record of 88-71.

Central: (mixed): Franky35's Low Smoke (Pitching) ran away with the division---Low Smoke has a 19 game lead and a run differential of +222 best in the league. Low Smoke will be the number one seed with a record of 98-61

West (Pitching) The BC Managers' Preseid Meteor Showers have a 5 game lead with a record of 88-71 game lead and a run differential of +45

Wild card race: Hitting team Burley Norseman's Beantown Brawl Coolbeans (87-72 +57 will be in the playoffs as either the wild card or division winner if they can take 2 of three from Be Kind.

Although the pitchers won the season series, the hitters and pitchers both had two teams reach the playoffs

A big congratulations to Burley Norseman---entries in the 90s version of this idea and this decade's team both made the playoffs--he's the only owner who managed to accomplish that.

An almost as large of a congratulations to The BC Manager--leader of the Perseid Meteor Showers in this league. His Houston Pudge Rockets tied for the division league in the 90s but lost in the tiebreaker after losing the last game of the season to Sphillips' RI Aces--the eventual champion in the 90

On the other end of the spectrum---finishing with the worst record in both the 90s and 70s version was...the author of what you are reading--JJB92. The 70s version was even more cruel to me than the 90s version. Despite the presence of Pete Rose, Willie Stargell, Hank Aaron (partial season), Johnny Bench, Tony Perez, A Handful of Pain managed to lose more than 100 games.

Highest scoring hitting team: The Diamond Duds have scored 1,072 runs--an average of 6.74 runs per game.
Fewest runs allowed--pitching teams: Low Smoke recaptured the lead in this category--they are allowing only 4.11runs per game

Leaders:
Batting average:
Rod Carew-Beantown Brawl Coolbeans: .390 Rod has 261 hits which also leads the league
Home runs:
Reggie Jackson--of Bigdinkent's Diamond Duds---50
Runs Batted In:
George Brett--Jose Rijo's Morningside Martini's 159

Pitchers:
Wins
Wilbur Wood-Low Smoke--27 wins
ERA:
JR Richard-Presid Meteor Showers--2.61
Strikeouts
JR Richard 250

I'll provide more statistics on the season in next weeks wrap up.

Thank you JJB. I've enjoyed seeing these summaries even though I'm in the league. And I've enjoyed the leagues. Any thought of a 60s or 80s version?

And I have one message for Sphillip: Not this year, mofo!!

This popped up today, 9/26. Are there still spots in this league? I’d take hitting or pitching.

PW,

The league is wrapping up-the season closes tonight. I've been publishing updates so others can follow the outcome of the question if good pitching can defeat good hitting.

BC-congrats on winning the pitching centric division----you made a nice comeback after some early struggles. Due to family obligations and fantasy football which is now absorbing some brain space, I'm going to need to take a few months off. The 80s will be the next decade---I've reviewed the rosters and there will be some changes to the dispersal draft to assist both the pitching and hitting teams but that will likely be later in the year (December-ish) or early next year.

This was an interesting and frustrating theme league. I find some of the stats for my team pretty hilarious. Scored over a 1,000 runs and gave up over 1,000. Walked almost as much as I struck out (only 70 more K’s). But the best stat is 38 blown saves!

Good luck to the playoff teams. Go hitters!
