I was lucky enough to grow up in Cincinnati in the 70s and saw Joe Morgan at his peak. Some of the fondest baseball memories of my life. I remember being in the stadium with Joe Morgan on first base and the entire crowd chanting “Go! Go! Go!” Because everyone in the stadium knew the Joe Morgan was stealing second and there wasn’t a thing the other team could do to stop it

Arguably the best second baseman of all time if you take into consideration the era and ballpark that Hornsby played in, speed, and defense.

One of my earliest baseball memories was watching him bat with those arm pumps. Warching those legendary Reds and A's teams of the '70s. My recollection was running home from kindergarten to watch the 1972 World Series but I suppose now I was watching earlier rounds of the play-offs (they didnt play the world series in the middle of the day, right?). It's like all these great players are dying at once so they can go play baseball together on a field of dreams...

I am just a couple of years older. I know in 1973 that they DID play at least one world series game during the day, I remember one day after lunch in October 1973, my 4th grade teacher wheeling the 19" tv to the front of the class and we watched at least one hour of one game between the A's and Mets. Now I grew up in Seattle, but I would swear that we were watching the game sometime around 1:30pm pacific time....don't ask me the innings we saw, my memory gets muddy after that.

Joe Morgan was my favorite Red and I loved watching him stretch out those doubles and triples with his belly flop splashes to punctuate the moment!

My five year old self thanks you for the partial confirmation that he knew what the heck he was watching...

I can remember sneaking my transistor radio with ear piece into into 4th grade class and scurrying home on the bus to see 1963 series which would have been playing at what seemed like 1:30 - 4:30 East Coast time - but my mind is getting feeble in my old age.

Wish for the 60's again because of all the pain Joe Morgan inflicted on the Pirates during the Big Red Machine days.

Will miss Joe greatly even though he punished us.
