Help me understand defensive replacement logic

PostTue Oct 27, 2020 7:41 am

Yeah, I know, queue the HAL logic jokes.

But I do not understand the logic here. In this game with a 1 run lead HAL subs Rodriguez for Gibson in the 8th. Now I would prefer that substitution only be made if I am ahead by multiple runs. A close one run game I would leave Gibson in.

Now in this game I scored 4 runs in the bottom of the 8th to take a 4 run lead. I would expect Hal to then make my specified defensive replacements in the 9th. But none were made. What am I missing? Is the defensive replacement code only executed in the 8th?

Defensive replacement is done when game is close and in doubt, certainly at least as save situation. Unfortunately 4 runs is nothing in the last inning in our leagues so the logic is not ideal.
Gibson I would never have a defensive replacement for, however since there was the tying run on second and there was a Cather (X) chance that ended the eighth inning the defensive replacement may have saved the game.

Thanks. Was not aware it had to be close.
