Trevor Bauer 2020 - AAAAIIIIIEEEEE!!!!

PostFri Nov 13, 2020 10:53 am

Cy Young award winner. But...,

vs LHB - 8 HRs in 146 PAs (135 ABs). He will be lights out against right handed batters, of course.

As a point of comparison, 2017 Scherzer gave up 16 HRs in 420 PAs (372 ABs) and had a HR on 5 - 5; 1 to 16 with five ballpark diamonds. Bauer's HR pace over 420 PAs amounts to 23 HRs.

Bauer could easily have eight diamonds and will certainly have a clean HR on a 4 or 5 with another split somewhere else vs LHBs. For our all-star and semi all-star league formats, it will be easy loading up a left handed heavy lineup when facing Bauer.

True, I would hope none of these 2020 cards ever get in to ATG.

FWIW,

Lefties hit a whopping .170 against him

He'll have something like a clean HR on a 5 or 9 (vs lefties), a split HR - flyout on something funny like a 3 (vs lefties), a significant split triple - flyout somewhere vs righties, a couple walks, and no singles or ballpark singles.

Oh, and eight ballpark HRs vs lefties. He'll be a 9R.

Because his numbers are so disproportionate, I suspect they can't really capture his full effectiveness because there's no mechanism to take singles away from the batter's cards.

Has there ever been a better 1-2 punch on a collegiate baseball team than Gerrit Cole and Trevor Bauer at UCLA? Or maybe even more pertinent, to have better pro careers?

Rafael Palmeiro and Will Clark at Mississippi State come to mind. Of course, no one was better than Lou Gehrig and the guy selling tickets at Columbia.

Yeah, Rafael Palmiero and Will Clark were pretty darn good (I kind of had pitchers in mind but no real reason to limit the comp
). I am not getting the reference to the guy selling tickets at Columbia, though I did come across an amusing story about Gehrig and Cobb getting into a fight while trying to find it...

Gehrig and a pigeon from the subway. It was tongue in cheek.

Lefties hit .215 vs. Scherzer that year.
.299 OB / .392 SLG

Bauer vs lefties:
.170 BA / .233 OB / .378 SLG

I'll gladly use his card since you guys seem to dislike his #'s vs. LH's
Those are some nice #'s... :P
