2020 Finals Vote for CAP/DH/Draft Order

PostFri Nov 27, 2020 3:18 am

Congratulations to the Top 9 in Barnstormers 2020 - they will be joined by the Winners of the 3 semi-final leagues for the 2020 Championship League.

1. grazoontite 538
2. labratory 526
3. RiggoDrill 520
4. garyclausen01 518
5. bk7171 516 (2 championships)
6. BruceF 516 (1 championship)
7. Goreds54 512
8. BDWard 511 (6 playoff appearances)
9. sjudd 511 (5 playoff appearances)
10. Semi-finals winner with most Wins in their Semi-Final League
11. Semi-finals winner with the next most Wins in their Semi-Final League
12. Semi-finals winner with the fewest Wins in their Semi-Final League

Next up, every player in order from #1 to #9 will be asked to place their vote for Finals Salary Cap and DH/No DH and their live draft position choice. As the overall #1 finisher, grazoontite will be asked to place his vote in the below format.

For salary cap, I vote for (80 or 100) Million.
If the majority vote for 80 Million, then my choice is (DH or NO DH)
If the majority vote for 100 Million, then my choice is (DH or NO DH)
My draft order choice for the Live Draft is (anything not picked from 1 to 12)

Once a player has POSTED his selection and I see it, it is considered FINAL and cannot be changed.

The Live Draft will be held on SOM's live draft app - Due to limitations of the SOM app, we will draft all 25 players plus a stadium on the app. This will be a serpentine (snake) draft with a 2 hour time limit per pick. Any stadium is allowed in the Finals, so long as it is Drafted. The clock will be turned on for 2 hours per pick for the draft.

Last years 3 hour pick per turn was considered too long and not necessary. This topic may still be debatable.

The standard "auto league" is still 80 Mil. However IMHO it should be 100 which remains the most popular and most played cap. All of the rest are at the extreme ends of the spectrum. We all know 200 Mil is a crap shoot and certainly when played with the Autodraft. Bad draft, you lose. We wouldn't have a 200 Mil Event had the board not overruled me. I'm STILL thinking about checking in with them on that topic again.

60 Mil also presents specific challenges. I think it's hardly appropriate for a Barnstormers Final.

As you mentioned, we do have some time so I am open to continuing to discuss the topic. I'd like more opinions on why you want to allow caps that high (or low). I make note of a casual observation Bernie that you seem to thrive on the higher caps.

As far as new players being added, we have always played with whatever players are available AT THE TIME of league creation. I know I will get flack for this comment but I REALLY don't see how any player who is IN THE SET or NOT IN THE SET can affect how a manager does in the Finals or any other event.

Does that list of players include cards that were requested from last year's Barnstormer's Finals league? I asked for '84 Cal Ripken Jr. - don't see him in that list.

Having "Tim Wakefield" has nothing to do with winning or not winning the Barnstormers Championship. If you aren't going to "discuss" the merits of caps other than 80 and 100, this "discussion" will fade away and I will be right back to requiring people to post their votes NOW and get this moving the way I intended.

Sorry. Didn't mean to derail the conversation.

I enjoy other caps just because they require different ways of approaching the team. But I agree that the BS finals should be either $80 or $100 mil.
If you want my vote now, I'm happy to give it.

Seems to me that the biggest argument for all salary caps to be available in the finals would be that the barnstormers tournament gives equal weight to all the caps in the qualifying rounds. The reason that 80 and 100 Mil are the most popular caps seems like a bit of an arbitrary reason for the finals to be played at only those caps. It also disadvantages players who excel at the other caps. What I think might be a better schedule going forward would be for the finals and semi-finals to played at a different cap level every year based on a rotating schedule. That would give the players who are specialists at the extreme caps a better chance to compete in the finals when their best cap level is represented. It would also incentivize players to become more adept at playing all cap levels instead of just 80 and 100 Mil. I realize that this is more of a long-term solution that would have to be brought to the board, and wouldn't really help this year but it might be worth considering.

Let the champions who earned the right to play make the decision.

Bruce said it.

I also don't agree with 1Can1 - having different finals cap year to year. It's hard enough to make the Top 9 (12) let alone you finally get there and - "damn it - this years finals is 60 (200) Million". Again I am not in favor of the extreme caps, despite some people being skilled at them.

We are moving on with the vote and Lab will be emailed to post his vote. This delay produced nothing to convince me otherwise. 80 and 100 mil are the choices as we have done for the last 10 (at least) years.

I've asked the board in the past on extreme finals caps and none of them wanted anything other than 80 and 100. I will email them again or they can pop in and post just to confirm.
