Initial Draft
The league will start with a two-round snake draft with 12 owners. Owners will each take one franchise that existed during the 1960s (there were 24 including the 4 expansion teams in 1969).
Player Eligibility
A player’s eligibility to be on an owner’s roster will be based on whether any of the 5 seasons on their mystery card was with one of the owner’s franchises. If all 5 seasons are for one team, that player is only eligible to play for the owner of that franchise. If there are seasons with multiple teams, then the player is eligible to the owner of any of those franchises. Eligibility applies to the autodraft, waiver draft and free agency at any time during the season. An owner cannot have an ineligible player on their team.
Eligibility can be traded to any owner at any point in time (pre-autodraft, preseason, during the season), however trading a player does not affect the eligibility of the player to other teams. In other words, trading for a player does not give an owner exclusive rights to that player unless the team trading the player had his exclusive rights.
Owners are required to drop ineligible players from their roster as soon as possible (whether acquired through autodraft or error). Owners cannot trade an ineligible player at any time.
Seasons
Two seasons will be played in each of the 5 mystery card decades, chronologically (60s, 60s, 70s, 80s, 90s,2000s).
Owners will keep the same two franchises during the decade. (No team draft between a decade's two seasons).
New decade draft
After the 2 seasons of one decade, each owner will choose one of their two franchises to keep for the next decade. The other franchise will be available to be drafted.
The new decade draft order will be based on the following, cumulative of the decade’s two seasons:
1. The least number of credits won in the previous decade (for championships or finals appearances)
2. The least number of wins
3. The lowest run differential.
Owners will each draft from the available franchises. Beginning in the 70s, with expansion, two or more franchises will be undrafted. Player eligibility will be based only on the teams that have been drafted. Any player whose 5 seasons are all with an undrafted team/teams are eligible to all owners in the league. (This rule will not apply to the 60s as there will be no undrafted franchises.)
NEW! Season 2 Player draft
After the first season of each decade, there will be a 1-round player draft. Teams will get to draft 1 player, eligible for one of their franchises, who will be reserved for that team at the start of season 2. Draft order will be based on the reverse order of regular season record (so we won’t need to wait for the season 1 playoffs in order to complete the draft). The player will have to be on a team’s roster during the season in order for them to be reserved – if dropped, the player will be available to other teams who have rights to the player.
Trades (also see above regarding eligibility)
Any trades made at any time only effect the current decade’s seasons. A trade made during the 60s does not carry over to the 70s. Trades made before the second season in a decade will carry over to the second season, unless the trading owners agree otherwise and inform the league. Again, trading a player does not affect their eligibility to other owners.
Divisions
The divisions for the first 60s season will be based on the reverse draft order (East: 9-12, Central 5-8, West 1-4).
The divisions for the second season in a decade will be based on the reverse order of finish of the first season (East: lowest 4 records in the previous season Central: next lowest 4 records West: 4 playoff teams), using the SOM tiebreaker rules if necessary.
The divisions for the first season in a new decade will be based on the draft order for that decade (East: 1-4, Central 5-8, West 9-12).
Ballparks
Teams must use one of the ballparks belonging to one of their franchises. Teams are not obligated to use the same ballpark between seasons or between decades.
Salary cap
$100 million for each season.
Rosters
For the 60s seasons only:
Rosters must be rule-compliant (in terms of numbers and eligible players) by opening day.
Waiver draft
Each season will have a preseason waiver draft (no frenzy).
DH
No DH for 60s seasons. DH for 70s, 80s, 90s and 2000s seasons.
Team names
It is requested, but not required, that all teams have a name based on at least one of their two franchises.
