I've never figured this out.

Ray Caldwell is a terrible fielder and a 3WL hitter yet he steals bases. This season he had 9 stolen bases and now he stole another in his first playoff game. Do the pitchers perchance actually have their own card and not a generic pitcher card? Another pitcher comes to mind and that is Don Drysdale. I have seen HAL use him as a pinch hitter. I don't recall any other pitcher used that way. I remember one time HAL put a pitcher, I can't remember who, in as a pinch runner. Anybody else notice these things? Anybody got a theory on why it happens other than HAL is a lunatic?

As you can see in the attached rules there is some sort of hidden sheet that hold stolen base capabilities for some pitchers, apparently Caldwell made the list!

Actually I have seen a list of advanced stealing ratings for pitchers and Caldwell is on it. Published maybe b4 strat online migrated from SN website. Wish I could remember how to navigate to it.

Runnin' Ray Caldwell steals 11 bases!

Another card with hidden base stealing ability is the '41 Dolph Camilli card. He's rated a D with a rating that screams "set to not steal" but he almost always steals around 10 bases when I use him.

As I recall, the Cubs used Greg Maddux as a pinch runner on accasion back in his early years.

There are a few pitchers that have the green light on the bases.
I don't have the list but have also seen occasional stolen bases from Jack Coombs $2.05, Bullet Joe Rogan $5.53, Ray Brown $5.34 and Amos Rusie $7.73.

Found what I mentioned above:

https://www.strat-o-matic.com/baseball/baseball-rosters/

This is the roster sheet archive on strats website, if you look at the roster sheet from 1920, Ray Caldwell (among others) has a stealing split rating, not just a letter stealing grade. There are others in different years, including 1911 Coombs, Nel Rogan & Brown also other old timers. The online game evidently uses these supplemental stealing ratings.

I do not object to these being used. But it should be transparent they are used and there should be a chart online so you would know when you drafted one of these cards additional ratings would be in play. I also wonder if these ratings are factored in to the prices for these pitchers. I would also like to be able to see these cards on my batter preferences screen so I could influence whether they steal more or not or are less likely to be pinch hit for, etc.

I would also like to see this information included on the card image if the are used.
