Sounds great. Looking forward to a new year. Thanks for taking the reins of this league. We will miss Bill's leadership as he is inducted in the Hall of Fame as the Keeper Commissioner GOAT.

I couldn't agree more. I've been invited to some keeper leagues the past few years. The first thing I looked at was if Bill was commissioner or not, and if not, would ask questions such as "do you provide an available list for the upcoming season" as well as other small things Bill used to do that I haven't witnessed in other keeper leagues. He made it so easy for the other 11 managers over the course of the year. I joined another keeper league the year after NAKL began, and the difference in the "secretarial" work that Bill did was like night and day. I was so spoiled by how Bill ran things, I left the other keeper league after it's initial season.

I can't say enough how enjoyable it was to be in leagues where Bill handled the crap few, if any can match. A sincere thanks to you Bill, for carrying on such a thankless job.

Awww you guys are making me blush.

I will lend a hand to the new commish to try and keep things as much as they have been, but things at work are about to get unpredictable, so I'm almost doubly glad I've stepped down this year.

RULES

Initial Draft:
1) The initial draft is a 41 round live draft. Rounds 1 through 40 are for players; Round 41 is for the stadium.
2) Only those players who were issued SOM cards this year (2008 for 2007 season) and appear on TSN"s website are eligible for the initial draft.
3) The initial draft is serpentine; all subsequent Free Agent drafts are non-serpentine based upon the previous season's regular season combined records. (See below) Draft picks are tradeable.

Prospect drafts:
1) There are 2 prospect drafts during each season only until 2019 ( the 2018 card set) after which there will only be one prospect draft.
2) The first yearly prospect draft is 2 rounds, to be held immediately after each year's Spring Free Agent draft, here after called Spring Prospect Draft
3) The second yearly prospect draft is 2 rounds, to be held immediately after each year's Supplemental Free Agent draft, Hereafter called the Summer Prospect Draft.
4) Only those players without MLB experience signed by MLB teams are eligible for any prospect draft.
a)Spring Prospect Eligibility: Prospects are defined as any player that has a signed contract with an MLB organization that has no MLB experience prior to the start of the current MLB season.
b) Summer Prospect Draft Eligibility: Same as above and may include players called up during the actual MLB season, but will not include MLB draft picks that have not signed contracts prior to the start of the current MLB season.

5) The initial prospect draft is serpentine. Draft order for this initial Prospect draft will be the reverse of the draft order for the Initial Free Agent draft. All subsequent prospect drafts are non-serpentine, and draft order is based on the previous year's regular season records. Spring draft is Combined records and Summer is season 1 records.
6) Owners lose rights to all prospects that they release; Released prospects are eligible to be drafted as either a) Free Agents if they were issued SOM cards or b) prospects again if never issued SOM cards.
7) There is no clock for Round 1 of each prospect draft. All subsequent rounds will operate with a 3 hour clock.
8) Individual owners are responsible for their own prospect research.
9) Draft Order for the Spring Prospect draft is determined by the cumulative records of the previous season.
10) Draft order for the Summer Prospect draft will be determined from the reverse order of finish from Season 1 each year
11) Beginning in 2020, with the 2019 player set, the prospect draft will consist of only a single draft of 3 rounds to begin immediately after the annual spring free agent draft. Draft order will be determined as before.

12) In 2021 with the 2020 player card set the draft will only be two rounds and will maintain that format in subsequent years.

Supplemental Free Agent drafts:
1) A Supplemental Free Agent draft of up to 3 rounds will be held between seasons 1 and 2 of each calender year.
A) Beginning with the year 2020 (the 2019 player card set) the supplemental draft will only consist of 2 rounds. Superseding rule 6.

2) All owners must announce their roster drops prior to the Supplemental draft.
3) Owners may drop up to 3 (2) players, but do not have to drop any. Owners with less than a 40 man active roster may use the Supplemental Draft to get back to a full 40 man roster under the following conditions:
a) They have the draft picks available to do so
b) they do not drop more than 3 (2) players
c) they can do it within the 3 rounds/36 pick (2 round 24 pick) draft window.
4) Supplemental Free Agent drafts are non-serpentine; Supplemental Free Agent draft order is determined by the previous season's regular season record.
5) There is no clock for Round 1 of the Supplemental Free Agent draft. All subsequent rounds will operate with a 3 hour clock.
6) The Supplemental Free Agent draft is only 3 (2) rounds. There will never be more than 36 (24) picks made in the Supplemental draft.
7) Eligibility for players to be drafted follows the same rules as the Spring Free Agent draft for that year, that is any player with MLB experience prior to the start of the current MLB season is eligible to be drafted in the supplemental draft

Annual Spring Free Agent drafts:
1) A non-serpentine free agent draft of at least 10, and up to 15 rounds, will be held each year shortly after TSN/SOM cards are released. Draft order is determined by cumulative win/loss records from the previous year. Worst to first, NFL style.

2) All owners must drop enough players to bring their rosters to a maximum of 30 players allowing for 10 draft picks; Owners can drop more players, to allow for picks into the 15th round and/or to allow for prospects to be promoted from the prospect roster. It would be possible to cut up to 25 players in this scenario. However no team will allowed to draft past the 15th round, with one exception. In the event a trade occurs during the draft that is unbalanced that would leave a team with less than 40 players at the end of their predetermined last round, that player would be awarded a Supplemental draft pick at the end of the draft to bring their roster to 40. If this happens with multiple teams, the draft order would follow the same order as earlier rounds.

3) Player drops must be announce prior to the beginning of the Free Agent draft.
4) All owners must have a full 40 man roster upon completion of the annual Spring Free Agent draft.
5) There is no clock for Round 1 of each Annual Free Agent draft. All subsequent rounds will operate with a 2 hour clock, 10am-10pm weekdays. There is no clock on weekends.
6) PROSPECT PROMOTIONS AND DROPS MUST BE DONE PRIOR TO THE START OF THE FREE AGENT DRAFT; AFTER
6a) DROPPING 10 TO 15 REGULAR ROSTER PLAYERS AND
6b) AFTER ALL EXPIRING PROSPECTS HAVE BEEN EITHER PROMOTED OR DROPPED; AND
6c) AFTER ALL NON-EXPIRING PROSPECTS HAVE BEEN PROMOTED, DROPPED OR UNCHANGED;
NO MANAGER MAY HAVE A ROSTER OF MORE THAN 30 PLAYERS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE SPRING FREE AGENT DRAFT.
Also:
7)NO MANAGER MAY HAVE MORE THAN 10 (TEN) PROSPECTS ON THEIR ROSTER AFTER ALL DROPS AND PROMOTIONS HAVE BEEN MADE AND THE FREE AGENT DRAFT BEGINS
8) It is possible that a manager may have to forfeit picks in the draft in the event that by his cuts, he may picks left however due to acquiring extra picks in early rounds his roster is full. Eg. A manger, through trades, has acquired 2 extra picks in the 1st round, 1 extra pick in the 2nd and 1 extra pick in the 4th and 1 in the 7th, giving him 13 picks in the first 8 rounds. He has also traded away his 9th and 10th round picks. Assuming he only cuts 10 ( which he needs to do to not only get down to 30, but to be able to trade his 9th and 10th round picks), he would be done drafting in Round 6 and forfeit his two 7th and one 8th round picks. He also forfeits the right to trade those picks once it is discovered his roster would be full after round 6. In order to not forfeit those picks, he'd have to make 3 additional cuts.

General rules:
1) There will be 2 seasons played each year; Season 1 will begin in after the Initial spring free agent draft - Season 2 will begin in August.
2) Divisional assignments will change each season. The format is this: a) initial divisional assignments will be follow the general 1-4-7-10 East, 2-5-8-11 Central and 3-6-9-12 West.
3) Cumulative team records will determine the divisional assignments for Season 1 of each new year. The 4 worst records in the East, middle 4 in the Central, and best 4 in the West.
4) Divisional assignments for season 2 each year will be determined by the final win/loss records of the previous season.
5) All transactions must be posted on the individual league thread.
6) The league Commissioner shall maintain a record of all drafts, transactions and player movements and provide a copy to any owner on request.
7) All ties between teams will be broken by the previous season's head to head win/loss records. If this does not break the tie, cumulative win/loss head to head records will be used.
8) You cannot trade draft choices that you do not own. This means that if you trade a 9th round draft pick, you must release as many players as necessary to insure that you will have a 9th round pick. For example, you have a 40 man roster, and you have acquired an extra 2nd, 3rd, and 6th round draft picks during the year. You have also traded away
a 7th and 9th round draft pick. This means you must release at least 12 players prior to the draft to insure that you will have a 9th round pick. If you plan to continue drafting beyond
Round 9 you will have to release an additional player for each subsequent round. You cannot drop more than 15 players.
9) All rule changes must pass by a super majority - 8 owners or more.
10) There are no specific rules against "roster dumping." Owners no longer in a pennant race can use their best judgement in determining the makeup of their team, provided that all general roster size limits are met. However, it is expected that all owners will act in the best interests of the game.
11) All leagues will be set up using the DH.

Stadium rules:
1) Each player will draft a stadium during Round 41 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
2) Stadium draft order will be the reverse of Round 1 of the Initial Free Agent draft.
3) As of 2022, Owners can change stadiums, as of 2024, that change can occur annually.
4) in order to change stadiums, managers must list their current stadiums with their drops prior to the spring free agent draft.
5) A stadium draft using the same order as the spring free agent draft will happen concurrently with the Spring Free agent draft.
6) Managers must keep the stadium for both seasons.
7) A second season replacement manager has the option to change stadiums for season two of the card set.

Roster rules:
1) Each team must carry no more than a 40 man roster. In the event a transaction sends an owner's roster above the 40 man limit, said owner is allowed 1 day to release as many players as necessary to get back to the 40 man limit. However if an owner has less than 40 players due to uneven trades, the owner cannot bring his roster to the full 40 until a Free agent draft, whether spring or supplemental. ( See Player Movement)
2) Each team must carry a 26 man league roster during each season.
3) Each will carry a 15 man minor league roster during each season.
4) Each team may add an additional 3 players (to a maximum of 28 players) to their MLB roster once game 132 has been played.
5) There are no limits to transactions between an owner's major and minor league rosters except those internal to the SOM game engine.
6) Injured players can be kept on a team's major league roster for the duration of their injury. Players promoted to the major league roster as injury replacements must be returned to the minor league roster once the injury has healed. There is a 2-game grace period to return injury replacement players to the minor league roster - this allows each owner to maintain a constant 25 man roster at all times. We will be using the honor system here - please don't keep players beyond their authorized time!
7) Each team is set up with a $999 million dollar roster; all roster transactions will use the 10% Free Agent penalty.
8) The minimum roster size is 30 players. The only exceptions are during the supplemental and free agent draft periods.
9) All teams must meet SOM roster requirements at all times while in season.

Prospect Player rules:
1) The maximum number of prospects allowed on each roster is 10.
2) Prospects are not counted as part of the 40 man roster while they maintain their prospect status.
3) Owners control the rights of their prospects for no longer than 2 years. At the end of 2 years (from time of draft) a prospect must either be promoted to the MLB roster or released.
4) Prospects can be traded, but the 2 year timeline remains constant for each prospect. Prospects moving from one team to another must be promoted or released when the original 2 year cycle has been reached.
5) Prospects can be promoted to the major league roster at any time, provided there is roster space available. Once promoted all prospects lose their prospect status, and cannot be demoted back to prospect status.
Please see additional rules for prospects under the spring free agent draft thread

Player movement:
1) Trading players is authorized and encouraged. The trading of draft picks is also authorized. Unbalanced trades are authorized provided that the 40 man roster limit is maintained at all times; in the event of an unbalanced trade the owner of the team whose roster exceeds the 40 man limit is allowed 1 day to release player(s) to get back to the 40 man limit.
2) There will be no pickups of free agent players except through the Annual and Supplemental Free Agent drafts.
3) Prospects can be activated and promoted to the major league roster during the regular season provided there is roster space available to do so. Players with a full 40 man roster cannot promote a prospect until there is room available to do so.
4) Regular players on the 40 man roster cannot be released in order to promote a prospect while a season is in progress.
5) Regular players can be released from the 40 man roster only for the following: a) pre-draft release prior to Annual Free Agent draft; b) pre-draft release prior to Supplemental free agent draft; c) to bring a roster down to the 40 man limit as a result of an unbalanced transaction.

With the new no SP* rules in effect, starting pitchers will be at a premium. I have 7 serviceable starters and looking to move 1, maybe 2 of them. They are:

Yu Darvish
Jacob deGrom
Brandon Woodruff
Pablo Lopez
Sonny Gray
Max Scherzer
Dakota Hudson

Looking to fill (upgrade) any position other than SS (many and I can offer one as well), CF, RF.

I received the ratings download today and there's a lot to take in. It's going to be an interesting season as many usually solid players have putrid and extreme ratings. Greinke for example gives up 53.4 TB's against RHB! And then I have several position players with 70+ TB's on their cards.

I am still evaluating my team but it definitely seems I'll have some position players to trade, particularly in COF and 3B/SS/2B.

Kev, I was planning to send you the marriage of the ratings spread sheet with the salary one once the salaries are released, that's what I use to create the players available list. Let me know if you want me to do that nd I'll step you through the process of creating that list.

Bill, sure that would be great to walkthrough. If my memory serves me correctly I believe the names on the salaries list and the names on the ratings sheet are in a different format, which would be the tricky part in marrying the two.
