Pinch Hitting for a Pinch Hitter

Hypothetical scenario. I bring in a 4L pinch hitter and HAL counters with a 3L reliever. I have a 5R pinch hitter on the bench, and he's not my last reserve batter, I haven't gone to my bench previously, and it's late innings. I'd really like HAL to counter with a PH for the PH, I think this a good strategy that I've seen often enough in real world baseball. Is there any setting or settings that might cause HAL to make this change?

I haven't seen it, but a WILD GUESS is to use the platoon setting for the first batter backed up by having the second batter set as your primary PH against Right-handed pitching.

That's an interesting idea. I will try it. I have largely stopped using the platoon setting because it would bring in a worse fielder when I was winning if the other team had relieved with an opposite handed pitcher.

UPDATE: The platoon function only seems to work for starters. The PH's I sought to platoon both play LF, but when I tried to set up this function, the platoon player became paired with my usual starter after I switch him back in to the lineup. Darn it. Any other ideas? I'd really like to have the right PH up to the plate in a critical situation especially as I have some highly "handed" bangers on the bench! I should have mentioned that I have the "avoid xH pitcher" checked off, this doesn't seem to trigger when someone comes in as a PH.

Of course I could have followed up my original post with asking how to get HAL to relive for a reliever. I don't believe that the avoid xH and xH specialist have caused this to happen, but I suppose I've never really seen it since the PH for a PH doesn't happen.

Under Hitter Prefs, set your 4L pinching hitter to Avoid RHP. If HAL brings a right-handed pitcher in to pitch against him, HAL will immediately pinch hit for your pinch hitter. Similarly, you can set your 5R pinch hitter(s) to Avoid LHP.

Note: The Avoid LHP/RHP setting works specifically with pinch-hitting situations and will not work for hitters already in the lineup. Platoon PH under Set Your Lineups will help with that.

Already tried this. I made some changes in the team roster that was experiencing my issue, but I will recheck this with a new team in a league that's starting tonight.

Nope. This doesn't cause a 2nd PH to come into the game.

Nope. This doesn't cause a 2nd PH to come into the game.
