In a press release tonight Manager Pork "CHOPS" Murphy announced that all players had passed their physicals and were on route to their new homes. DH/SS Bo Bichette and 1B/3B Jeimer Candelario were sent packing off to the Minnesota Wetspots for RP Tyler Webb, the #15 rated SS according to Central Scouting in Royce Lewis and an unknown #2 pick of the Wetspots in 2022 prospect draft.
"We had to make some tough decisions in the last 72 hours as salary cap restrictions and the number of superstars already on the team and what the costs in the future are going to be," Murphy stated."We gave up 2 excellent young ball players to keep our house in order and arrive at a fair trade for both sides." Getting SS Lewis was key to the deal the overall #1 pick of the Twins in the MLB draft.""Lewis's unique combination of explosive tools, top-of-the-scale makeup and up-the-middle defensive profile make him arguably the best position player prospect in this year's class," wrote Baseball America.Baseball America provided the following praise:"Lewis is high-waisted and broad-shouldered and runs like a gazelle; his best run times from home to first base are under four seconds. He's typically a 70-grade runner but can flash an 80 run time when he gets out of the box well. He also shows plus-plus bat speed and plus raw power." With the signing of FA Swanson for 5 year deal Management will bring the young SS along slowly.
The other part of the trade will see RP Tyler Webb come and immediately fit in to the Cubbies Bullpen as the main LH middle reliever role. The 29 yr old is a late bloomer is entering his 5th year and in 2020 posted an impressive 3-3 record to go along with an era of 2.08 with a 1.10 whip.

I am clarifying this trade as I do not like the wording of "No. 2 prospect pick". I am revising to 2nd ROUND prospect pick.

TRADE:
CUBBIES TRADE
Bo Bichette
Jeimer Candelario

TO Minnesota Wetspots
For
Royce Lewis
Tyler Webb
No 2 ROUND prospect pick 2022

i agree

Looking ahead to offering contract extensions, am I correct that the 3/4 yr 50% average, and the 5 yr 25% average, in the case of multi-position players, apply to the position most frequently played in the 2020 season?

For instance David Dahl is eligible for an extension, played all 3 OF positions in '20, but appeared most often in CF. Therefore, his extension salary would be based on the CF average, rather than either LF or RF. Correct?

I just noticed that CJ Abrams is correctly listed as a prospect on my salary chart, but does not show up on the 2020-1 roster chart.

I got hit up in the credit card hack. Fortunately I'm pretty anal about finances and caught it right away. So far 2021 has been way worse that 2020.

I will be setting up the Prospect Draft thread today.

++++++++++++++++1st ROUND IN THE BANK+++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Pork "CHOPS" Murphy and the war team announced that their #1 pick LH SP Asa Lacy out of Texas A&M has agreed to terms and will be invited to spring training and gain some valuable experience . The 6'4, 215 lb boosts a 14-5/2.07 with 224 K's in 150 innings over the last 3 years with Texas. Lacy is modeled after Kershaw/Chapman combination with power, stuff, and work ethic making him the No. 4 overall Draft choice by the Cubbies. His name, Asa, was inspired by his great-grandfather, Asah, a Swede, and the biblical king, Asa. At Texas A&M, another name has seemed appropriate: Ace.

Many of the stories are about pitching dominance: the fastball that touches 97 mph or the slider that was honed so nicely in this abbreviated season. To Childress, a college pitching guru for three decades, his Asa Lacy moment came during a meeting of the team’s book club of all things.

“He put himself out there in front of his teammates,” Childress said. “I’m telling you, it’s one of those things no one on our team is going to forget.”Lacy's parents allowed him to stay up late to watch Kershaw’s West Coast starts, and he has studied the Dodgers lefty from just about every angle.

“I think we have similarities,” Lacy said. “I don’t have the stop-and-go in my delivery, but in terms of release height and back legs, we’re pretty similar. I do think that’s one of the things scouts and teams are looking at. There is no obvious similarity to anyone. I’m pretty unique, so it’ll be interesting to see where I end up going.”

Childress, who also serves as A&M’s pitching coach, was hugely responsible for Lacy’s development, including by helping Lacy add 20 pounds of muscle and 10 mph of velocity after his freshman season.

In 24 innings, Lacy did nothing to hurt his Draft standing -- Lacy's stat line: eight walks, 46 strikeouts, 0.75 ERA and 0.71 WHIP.
