The Cape Bear Bandits continue clearing the house as veteran players (SP JA Happ and SS Jose Iglisais ) were sent packing along with the Bandits 3rd round FA pick in the upcoming draft to the "Covid Desert Horny Old Mutants" in a 5 player deal.
BREAKDOWN of Players Received:
RF Brandon Nimmo (.280/8/18) .404 OBP
Nimmo saw a sharp drop in flyball rate down to 16.1% from 28% in 2019, suggesting 2021 HR regression. Alternatively, Nimmo's strikeout and barrel rate both increased, and his walk rate remained elite. These factors, coupled with a sharp increase in groundball rate, slight increase in line drive rate, and consistency in his exit velocity on FB/LD (92.3 mph), suggest continued solid batting average and elite on-base performances for 2021 in a possible lead-off position for the Bandits.Only 27 Nimmo will be 1 of the veterans called on to lead the rebuilding Bandits.
SS Paul DeJong (.250/3/25) .325 OBP
Bandit fans will be hoping that SS deJong will regain the power that saw his HR production drop from 30 Hr's in 2019 to just 3 in the Covid 2020 season.Right now he is the perfect back-up to Jorge Polanco as the team continues its rebuilding.
SP Logan Gilbert (PROSPECT,RANK:#10)
"Anytime you can land a top 10 SP prospect you have to take that chance," GM Pork "CHOPS" Murphy said after the deal was finished late Tuesday night. "With SP Grayson "G-Rod" Rodriguez acquired last week(RANKED #7) this gives our team a chance for the future to have 2 very good starting pitcher atop of our rotation. Gilbert is a four-pitch starter – fastball, curveball, slider, changeup – and all four project as major-league offerings. He’s big, strong, athletic and has handled everything thrown at him thus far. His next developmental step puts him on the brink of the big leagues.
